What goal crease style did you prefer?

When somebody is compromising my safety I have no problems whatsoever dispensing lumber. Although I think I'm probably a bit more Billy Smith than most.

When I was playing, ya, Ditto on that, often lead about 1/4 of my team mates in Penalty Minutes. Lumberjack. Crease size back then, rectangular, no paint, and really no problem provided you were aggressive. I never played rec or pickup as a Goalie even as a kid, always out. Hung up the old waffle blocker & Cooper GP59's for good after Jr. Im also a member of www.goaliestore.com its posters predominantly older goalies playing in beer leagues etc. Thread upon thread of some horrific injury one of thems experienced at 30, 45, 55yrs of age or whatever. "Crashed" or hit. Some Wingnut taking out his frustrations that he never made it to "The Show" with an Al MacInnis slapshot to the groin from like 15' out. Post after post about the best way to deal with SpaceInvaders n' whatnot. Doesnt appeal to me in anyway whatsoever to go out & do that myself, don the pads etc again, but hey, whatever turns your crank. ;)

What was the purpose of two different goal creases - the semicircle with the rectangel inside? Anybody knows?

Were there different rules for each crease?

It was kept there in order to help goalies make the adjustment in transitioning from rectangle to semi-circle. With the rectangle you'd use the top outside corners to telegraph angles & so forth in playing stand-up as was the vogue when the semi-circle was first introduced. To just remove it altogether wouldve put many a goaltender at a disadvantage in trying to figure out where he was in relation to the posts, determining angles from the sides, down the middle.

Thanks a lot. :yo:

Welcome. I was playing Goal when it was introduced. A bit weird as you were given supposedly an enlarged safe or protected zone, though tell ya what, the players certainly didnt pay it much mind. Crease crashers gonna crash no matter what the size. In your face. The semi-circle for the Butterfly however, ideal as your playing deeper, more half circular 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock high to 9 o'clock post to post.

Count me as a modernist here. Rectangle with bubble in the front. As you can see in the picture, the space "semicircle minus rectangle" on the left and right is pretty much a dead space (from the goalie POV), no need to protect the goalie there.
What begbeee said. Those two portions of the semicircle are not areas in which goalies often position themselves to make saves. There's no need to make them part of the crease.

Also a fan of the semi-circle crease and I did like the waved off icing rule when it went through, make the goalie play that puck.
