So he's definitely making the HOF (sorry if that makes you mad and/or sad). That much seems fated (as per below).

He's at 940 pts now with gas in the tank. Let's say he settles in around 1050. That's ahead of Richard, Sedin, Bergeron, Getzlaf, Lafontaine. That's 2 pts behind Denis Potvin.

That would put him 3rd all time for an original 6 team, behind only Bourque and Bucyk (both in the HOF). Espo, Orr, and everyone in his rear view are in the HOF.

He's presently tied with Kane at 45th all time for playoff points. If I'm not mistaken, only Brian Propp in the list ahead of him isn't in the HOF. He has more playoff points than Jumbo Joe, Richard (both), Bobby Hull, Robitaille, etc.

He's now 3rd all time in overtime winners in league history (regular season). Probably only McDavid and Drai bump him in this group. Maybe a few others.

Cup winner, world cup winner, two time world juniors gold, dominant left winger for at least a 5 year span, 200 foot player, and now team captain.

So how close is that to first ballot?

It all depends who retires when he does and what kind of competition there is. Let's just say he retired the same year Sid, Ovy, Malkin and Kane do. Hes definitely not getting in on his first try. But if its a "weaker" year, he very well might.

1st ballot isn't a real thing in hockey. This isn't baseball where it's a recorded accomplishment and voters explicitly take it into account when inducting players.

He's making into the hall. But half the voters don't even know about 1st ballot distinction. I know Americans are desperate for it to exist, but the HHOF just isn't Cooperstown despite how much you want it to be.

Not a chance for first ballet. He will get get in eventually due to production and wins(Cups, Olympics).

I personally like more players to be inducted than not, but he does not have the track record or hardware to be automatic. To me he is in same discussion as Bondra, Tkachuk, Elias etc.

I sorta feel like Theo Fleury will get in before he does.

Off-ice antics aside, but aren't they the exact same player on the ice?

Lick the right people at the right time.

Hold on there, he paid an image consultant to make some funny tweets, so all is forgiven. We're supposed to think he's a great leader at this point. Get with the paid narrative!

I know Americans are desperate for it to exist, but the HHOF just isn't Cooperstown despite how much you want it to be.

Why would an American give a crap about that?
