Speculation: What does Dallas do in the offseason?

M
Dallas has barely more than $5mill in cap space despite needing to fill a ton of spots. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't even think they're able to run a full roster if every single player makes league minimum.

What do you think they're goingt o do?
Montreal be interested in Bourque. Give you one of our young centers, waiver proof next year. Kapanen

They can't do much. Unless they trade Johnston or Robertson imo.

Trade robertson for a D
From another thread :
Robertson for Batheron and Yakemchuk

Opens cap space and adds RHD

4 problems though :
1 only a few Sens fans were OK with it
2 too many RW now, Seguin back to center?
3 LW is now weak, especially if Marchment and or Benn leave too
4 Yakemchuk might need 1 year in AHL

They should trade for Rasmus Anderson in Calgary. RHD, can play big minutes, moves the puck well and is much better than the current dog**** on Dallas right side D.

If they did that, the ideal move for Dallas would probably be Bourque + Dumba + Dallas adds one or two picks or prospects Calgary would want for Andersson.

Not sure if Calgary keeps Dumba or trades him (with retention?) or buys him out.

I imagine they try to sell off Dumba to clear some space for the many forwards spots they need to fill. Problem is that still only leaves them with three NHL caliber defensemen.

Giving Rantanen 12 million comes at a cost, they're not going to be anywhere near as deep going forward. It's exactly why the Avs moved off Mikko, now Dallas is going to pay the price.

Dumba + Marchment moved. Benn takes league min, Duchene signs his 1 year/3m and Nashville pays him 7. That would do it.

Think they probably make some other moves, like trying to keep grandlund, so there may be more moving pieces.

100%.

They need to get rid of Benn, Duchene, Marchment

It’s not about money, it’s about them being negative for the team, money won’t change that

They had like half of their top9 way past their prime and Edmonton could skate around them

End of the Benn and Seguin era.

They need a #4D really bad. Bischel is likely that guy but he's a couple years away. Cody CC as he shown in Game 4 and 5, he aint that guy.
Think it's gonna be pretty tough to move Seguin with his NMC and salary. Can't see him waiving to go to a lot of clubs and the ones he would want to go to probably don't have the space

Colorado isn't exactly spending their money that great though. Sooner take Rantanen then a lot of the other high paid depth guys they have

Paying Rantanen isn’t the problem, he’s been paid under market value

The problem is paying 10M+ for players that are absolutely useless

Marchment, Dumba, Luybushkin trio

Not to mention Seguin taking 9.85M for another 2 seasons

Avs are spending 4.5M on Manson, 5.25M on Coyle, trying desperately to sign 34y Nelson to have something at 2C. Sure looks like they are using the extra cap very smart…..

Not to mention in a year they’ll be spending 10-11M on worse player

If they plan on keeper Duchene and Seguin, a good trade target that would solve most of their cap issues is Hintz.

They could get a good young center back who’s cheap + help at RHD and cap relief.

It would sucks to move on from such a good player but that way they could patch holes elsewhere AND bring everyone back

If you look at Dallas roster, the high end C is already their biggest weakness

Heiskanen, Harley, Oettinger that’s set for the next 8+ years

Rantanen, Robertson on the wing

Now if you want to make a change you trade Robertson while his value is still too high for his impact

Definitely think we see Robertson get moved

I'd think the team wants to get faster and more physical

100%.
Sounds like the plan. They can run it back if they're efficient. Pretty tough to make any improvements though.

I mentioned thus us another thread....

They probably need to move Dumba or Lyub and maybe move Robertson since they sihned ratsnen and WJ

That can give them space to sign other contracts.

In dealing Robertson they get back a couple l e low/ELC contracts

Obvious moves are to dump Marchment and Dumba. That shouldn't be too hard. Then you try to move Seguin. If that fails might have to look at a Robertson deal for young NHL ready players.

*They probably bring Benn back as a league minimum.
*Dadonov as well if he takes it...more likely he walks with a 20g resume
*Bourque isn't going anywhere unless they wait too long and he gets offer sheeted. They need more cheap cost controlled players
*Seguin is unmovable
*Marchment might be a cap casualty and gone to facilitate Granlund and they would love to attach Dumba for his full contract if possible
*Granlund they will have to move Marchment or he's gone
*They walk from Duchene 1 goal and being invisible isn't gonna cut it for a team looking to get to the next level and after 82pts someone will give him his last decent payday. Incoming bottom feeder
*Dumba will be bought out or traded with a draft pick. What an awful contract they would be wise to attach a pick or Marchment if they can clear the whole salary

Back = Benn Bourque Seguin Granlund and then run the kids until trade deadline
Gone = Duchene Marchment Dumba Dadonov
