With the cap going down, and with the way these long term-big money UFA deals seem to NEVER work out...I'd be a little hesitant to give this guy 7 million per over a 5 year deal. Guy is definitely a capable 70-80 point player, but damn, I'm sure some crazy teams will offer him big cash.
Never work out? You mean LA didn't goto the Cup with Doughty's big contract and New Jersey didn't get to the Finals with Kovalchuk's big contract?
Well, I guess NEVER is a strong word. But you get the point I'm trying to get across. Big money UFA deals rarely seem to work out. It's risky, for sure. They work out for teams far less than the deals that end up being duds.
If we can't get Perry, wait for 2014, Malkin, Letang, Vanek, Pominville, Heatley, Setoguchi, Marleau, Thorthon, Pavelski, Datsyuk, Both Sedins D. Brown, etc.
I know half of them won't even be on the market, but I'm a dreamer
We could trade for Heatley right now, it seems the Wild might consider the amesty buyout on his final year (7.5M)
I dont think the Wild would ask for much, it would be a salary dump.
I'd do Heatley vs Kaberle + 2nd pick. Then we will buy out Heatley this summer, or trade him if he performs very well with Habs.We could trade for Heatley right now, it seems the Wild might consider the amesty buyout on his final year (7.5M)

Maybe it's just me, but as a "b" move, I would be willing to offer a two-way contract to Latendresse with interesting incentives he if plays with the team.
I would bet on the fact that a two-way contract is maybe what he needs to shake his a**, work hard and stay in shape. Then, if it works out, you find yourself with a huge body with nice hands. Moreover, if he had to play in the AHL for awhile, it would give Hamilton a much needed veteran presence with talent.
It would be a win-win move. But another team will probably offer him a one-way contract. I dunno.

I like Tender, but I wouldn't even spend a contract space on him.
He went to California last week to see a neck/concussion specialist, add that to the back specialist last year....
I'm pretty sure the CBA doesn't allow a 2-way for a player who's been in the league that long/is that old.

They don't work out if your plan is to build your team and structure it around free agents. But if your core and a strong team system are already in place, it makes more sense to go for the missing piece. Chara became a game changer for Boston for that very reason. He was their missing piece.
Perry could definitely be the missing piece for us. I don't see any other pressing need for many years ahead than a big elite right-handed scoring winger. We're in good shape at every other position. And considering Perry's only 27, you know he can grow with that team.
It's not going to be cheap though. I'm guesing 8M over 7Y is going to be the asking price.
Playing Perry with both Gallys would be awesome.
Is there a list of the supposed UFA for next summer?
in just 1 or 2 years, Habs won't have any true #1 d-man. Markov is getting old, is slowing down greatly, and I remain skeptical Subban will ever become a TRUE #1 d-man; he's too "volatile" for that.
Habs' d-men prospects are interesting or good, but not great. There is no #1 d-man coming up.

McKenzie was talking to Spector on the local EDM radio and he stated that Perry does not want to resign in ANA. He will be in high demand.
