What do you want em to do?

What would you like the Bruins to do up to the trade deadline?

Our prospects/futures rank at the bottom of the league. This is catching up with us already.
Too many times we let UFAs simply walk away for nothing or trade them for next to nothing.
Time to fill the cupboard back up.

Trade all 20 players

Sabres blue print
Tage
Tuch
Peterka
Cozins
Kulich
Quinn
Power
Dahlin
Bowman
Rosen
Ostlund
Benson
Helenius

This is what the Bruins need - young freakin talent

14 years forget it but 5-7 we can do

Build it right ~ gotta pick top 5 like Pens

5 Ryan Whitney
1 Fleury
1 Crosby
2 Malkin
2 Staal

I’d rather do the Penguins approach

In the spirit…

I WANT the Bruins to make the playoffs. I never want to see them out. I don’t like it when they suck. I wanted to see more of a shakeup in the offseason when Coyle looked like an asset (coming off a big season) and Carlo could have been dealt without question in an effort to reshape the defense and add a couple of players who could move the puck.

But when that didn’t happen and my worst fears about the roster were worse than I imagined… I still wanted Sweeney to TRY to mix it up. Make a play to diversify the Bruins skillsets. I still don’t believe this is a bad roster - just too one-dimensional to be successful. I looked at the team and I didn’t see one that was missing the playoffs. Just one that could struggle especially if they got behind the score.

But now? I think it’s too late. Empty suit behind the bench. A total inability to build on the few good games they’ve had. Massive regression from players who were reliable just one season ago. There’s no saving them now. Too far gone.

So if he doesn’t factor in to a future vision of the team - dump him. That’s players by the deadline. That’s eventually coaching and management. Give the Bruins a shot at turning this around next season and get back into the playoffs. Eye on the draft. Eye on 2025-2026 and beyond. They blew it this year both by what they did in the offseason… and what they failed or were unwilling to do during the season.

Smells like TD Garden on an average day.

Warmed over "food" and ass.

I'll make it simple for you:

I want them to lose, keep losing, and lose yet more. I want them to crater. Finish dead last in the league.

I want there to be no question -- none -- that Don Sweeney and Cam Neely must go. In season? Of course not.

A week after they DNQ or get booted in the first round?

Yes please.

There is no question in my mind what this team is, and who needs to go:

*Anyone on this roster, including Brad, Swayman, McAvoy & Pastrnak.*

Will this happen?

No.

Sweeney will "evaluate" until evaluation is no longer tenable.

If there is the slightest iota of mathematical possibility Boston can make the playoffs to match his witless wishful thinking, he will seek to slip into the second season.

The Smartest Guy in the Room will unload Frederic and some minor actors who won't be here next year anyway.

Then, to paraphrase Evan Marinofsky, he will "rent mid."

A spare part here, a spare part there.

Will Don bring up Merkulov or Lysell?

Probably not.

Why?

I don't know why. You'd have to ask him. As soon as he emerges from hiding under his desk or exposes himself to soft balls lobbed his way by the crew @ TNT.

(Did you see that? A collective groan & sigh from my wing of The lunatic fringe.)

I'm sure Don, Cam and Charlie want and sincerely work toward a Stanley Cup.

Don Sweeney deserves great credit for becoming a damn good manager over time, for giving Jim Montgomery a second chance, and pushing all his chips forward in 2022-2023.

But the bottom line remains the bottom line.

"Just win, baby"?

Non.

"Just make the playoffs" ($).

That is the ultimate mandate from Buffalo.

Which leads, largely, to nibbling around the edges and refusing to see what everyone else sees: a roster deficient in nearly every category that must change, dramatically.

Unfortunately, SweeNeely are Sinden Lite.

"Harry doesn't play to win," a fellow GM once remarked.

"He plays not to lose."

*That* is the mentality.

Until they lose money, nothing of import will occur.

Big Z, stand back and stand by.

If you can make a trade to bring in a player who can help improve the PP, it may be worth doing. An experienced scorer for the power play a la someone like a Marchessault, Verhaege or Anders Lee.

The PK needs help more than ever. Getting rid of limp-wristed Carlo who can't seem to clear a puck might be addition by subtraction. Please don't reply that because he shoots right he's an asset. His shot looks like a butterfly going toward the net...

I want to see them retool, with an eye towards contending in the next 1-4 years.

I want them to make moves that hurt us in the next 3-4 months, but set us up well for the next 3-4 years.

I don't want to see them rebuild. To me that means selling off players for picks that won't help us for 5 years. If you can do that around the periphery, if you can move a guy who's not that important for a 3rd ok go ahead, another lottery ticket. But don't move Carlo for a pick if you can get a young player or NHL ready prospect instead. I only move Marchand if I KNOW I can get him back on July 1st. IMO, he's part of the next 4 years.

I also don't want to see the Bruins trade futures. They need to start building their next core and to do that they need to make their picks. I would love to see them drop into the top10 so they can get a Desnoyers or McQueen who I think will be in the NHL within 2 years.

Honestly, I think the Bruins have a good core, there are some good young players in progress, and there's a good supporting cast here. Use the deadline to change the mix, get younger if you can, get more skilled if you can, and free up cap space for July 1st.

Get a fresh perspective behind the bench. New coaching staff is the first thing I'm doing. This team has 9-10 players that you can build around, but our forward depth is non-existent and our prospect pool is thin. That's gotta be fixed at the deadline and over the summer. its time to move the UFAs for picks/prospects and restock the cupboard.

A coaching change will fix the special teams. Adding some scoring depth shouldn't be too difficult either over the summer. We don't need a blockbuster move, just a couple of guys you can depend on to pot 20+ goals. We f***ed this roster up over one summer, and we can fix it over one summer as well. At least we can fix it enough to get back into the playoffs.....Get there first, and build from there.
