What do YOU want Drury to do with the 1st round pick this year?

What do you want to do with this years pick?

  • Keep #11 this year, give away our pick next year

  • Only keep this years pick if we win the lottery, if not trade it.

  • Trade away #11 this year, keep next years

Lets see what the majority wants, even though it's not up to us (duh).

It is currently the 11th overall pick and will likely stay the 11th.

We have a combined 6.2% chance to move to #1 or #2, and a 13.4% chance to move to 12.

Only makes sense to keep the puck if it’s Top 3. If it’s not, just burn it. If we’re a top team in the league again next season, it’s ammunition to make a move at the deadline.

If (far more likely) we aren’t, then next year’s a much better draft anyway

Keep it and pick a guy who projects to be a bottom 6 forward you can't trust to kill penalties.

I mean no matter what number they pick, that's what they're going to develop the kid into anyway. No sense in disappointing anyone.

Obviously if you jump into the top 3 you gotta make the pick because even if they are shit again next year and wind up in a lottery position you gotta have the balls go your way again.

That would be pretty crazy math, especially if they fall in the 10-12 range again.

I dont think this team, with Igor, Miller and Fox and all of the changes that will be made can actually fall further down to like 7 or worse. They'll win more games by mistake than some other teams that have bad rosters.

Heres an interesting scenario i thought about, but doesnt apply because of the rules.

Teams are only allowed to improve their positioning via the Lottery twice in a five year period (beginning with the 2022 Lottery).

Lets say for argument sake the Rangers had taken Laf first overall in 22. And they hit this lotto at 11 moving up to 1 or 2. When they send the 26 pick to Pittsburgh, would Pitt be prevented from hitting the lottery since its actually the Rangers pick and would be 3 times within a five year period?

Probably would be ok because the pick is transferred before the 26 lottery, but would be an interesting to see how something like that would be handled.

I think they said at the time it would be based on which team originally owned the pick. I'd have to dig up those articles to verify it, though.

Send this year's pick to Pittsburgh; send it via carrier pigeon if you have to. If they stink again next year, they can trade assets off for more 2026 1sts in a deeper draft and other assets to build up for the next Cup contention run. This roster, as constituted, isn't winning shit.

I am hoping that a full offseason of answering gut wrenching questions about their lack of heart and absence of will to win turns this group from a kumbaya vegan prayer circle into a bunch of marauding Viking plunderers. Sound the horns! Coming ashore!

If you think he’s giving up the #11 pick this year (lottery dependent) for what could be the #twentyish pick next year, you are either a) crazy or b) a lot younger than me.
He didn't expect them to blow the ass out of their shorts this year either. Getting a year older rarely helps those things. If they get worse and somehow wind up in that lottery look out below. You're getting your face carved into Mount Milbury for one of the biggest GM missteps of all time.

I know this is the "duh" answer but it really depends on what Drury plans to do. If he's going to try and move out Kreider, Panarin, Zibanejad, Miller, etc. (some combination) and get younger, then it's probably best to punt on this year and pick next year.

But, if he's planning on an on the fly retooling, then I'd be content with picking this year.

I still don't know why some of you are so convinced he's gone in a year or two. I think unless the team falls flat on its face the way it did this year, he'll be around for at least a few more years.

For me, I have no pick preference beyond this. I mean next year's draft looks better, but it's highly conditional on what I said before.

I’m curious to see what he would do with it if he ends up keeping it. Will he draft a speedy forward for a change or a left-handed defenseman who can run a power play? Because if he drafts another average skating wing, then there’s no hope I feel.

Time value of draft picks. All else being equal, the 2025 pick is worth more than the 2026 pick at the same position. It takes long enough to develop talent from draft picks and taking on another year just drags it out even longer. Anyone can speculate about where this team is picking next year but you really don't know.

Like nyr2k2 said, unless Drury plans on doing some heavy selling during the off-season to try and get younger, there's a pretty decent chance we're a better team next year.
