For 5 years I could see him take it. Good term for him, good price for the Rangers.
If you want to win something as a player, assuming you believe your GM is competent, you should leave some money for the team to spend on the other players too, unless you plan to do all the winning all on your own.
Why is 5 years a good term?
Only if he assumes he can't keep it up in my opinion.
If he keeps up playing like this for 2-3 more years he would easily get 5m+ as a UFA.
He clearly loves NYR though. He will definitely take some sort of discount, but I would tend to agree that 3m for 5 years would be ridiculously cheap.
Zucc won't be here next year. There won't be any room under the cap for him after Slats gives Callahan and Girardi huge contracts and overpays for his latest UFA savior. It will be ironic if the difference maker is the extra $1-1.5 million that Slats threw at Cashquist.
Well Sather is perhaps the only person in New York that believed in Zucc from day 1. Most fans disliked Zucc because of his size, skating, scoring ability etc and wanted to trade him. Sather on the other hand signed him in 2010, qualifying offer in 2012 etc.
You can say whatever u like about Sather, but he believed in Zucc when most fans didnt.
I'd go for $4MM, plus performance incentives.
Not allowed unless it's an ELC or 35+ contract.
Zooks said one of the reasons he choose to sign with the Rangers is that Slats called him personally on his own phone (not his agent) and told him we want you to be a Ranger.
Yup, especially his teammates in Modo (IE Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, Niklas Sundström, etc). They all warmly recommended the Rangers, both Näslund and Sundström were Rangers at some point. If im not mistaken he also asked Forsberg and others for advice. And everyone adviced him to sign With the rangers.
Right now he is around Aaron Asham money at 1.15 mill. I think he should be making more than guys like Boyle (1.7 mill) but try not to go above Stepan money (3.1 mill).
3 years at 3.05 mill each would be good for both sides.
His fair value is more than that, at least 3.5, over 3 years I'd say 3.8 a yr.
As RFA other teams can make an offer, and the Rangers will have to match it to keep him. But Zucc is a guy who may accept a lower salary because he apparently doesn't want to leave the Rangers.
with the Salary going up, I'd be okay with up to 4.5 mm$ for 4+ years. Seriously.
