What do you think will be the next big 'trend' in the NHL?

2 on 2 10 min OT's.
Ok ok....
sadly there will be more ads on jerseys im afraid.

Hopefully a camera underneath the ice in the net to show the pucks in or some sort of censor that goes off to tell refs or the booth that the puck is in.

Giant skilled centers. Every GM trying to recreate Tage Thompson magic and getting burned.
Reminds me of when everyone chased size and physicality to a crazy degree and caused GMs to draft coke machines but someone like Marty St.Louis had a hard time getting a chance. Ultimately a good way to define a trend in players is what defines the bad decisions by GMs and coaches

Baltimore-ish

The designed play air mail dump pass where a forward will be a gunner and fly past the D and gather the puck.

its already a thing to some degree but it will become a thing thing

the death of the BS slingshot PP entry. Eventually someone will have the kahunas to rip off these blatantly lazy telegraphed passes on the regular. Despise watching this dumb play

I think we are going to see an influx of smaller, highly skilled d-men (think Lane Hutson). The reason is because in the past if a player had great hands they typically would be shuffled off to forward as they moved up the ranks, but now some of the D have the best hands on the team. That also has the affect that D really work on their puck skills (all players do) much more now than in the past. Off ice stickhandling drills etc. Call it the Cale Makar.

I think the ripple effect will be that teams cater their offense more to the dmen going low in the zone and F3 staying higher.

Depth over stacking the top lines
Just what the NHL needs lol even worse for marketing

I want to agree with you but it's really hard to look at Vegas, Tampa, Colorado and St. Louis and then also agree with your post. If anything, we seem to be going back towards big guys, except these days they can skate.

Since they like to copy football mainly and a little bit of baseball, I imagine slowing the game down to get people more interested since you don't really have to pay attention and can just browse your normal 3 apps on your phone and post pictures about where you are and how "cool" it is.

I guess the size doesn't have as much to do with it as much as the idea that the dmen will have better skill than in the past (relative to forwards). This will allow for smaller players to make more of an impact. I think most teams would prefer to have bigger skilled defensemen if they are available.

No loyalty to long term players. The players who spend their entire twenty year career with one organization will become a thing of the past.

Goalies stacking the pads more often on one-timers. It is the quickest way to take away the most probable part of the net they're going to shoot at. However, coaches still fear a goalie being dead in the water if they don't shoot but in my opinion it outweighs the risk.

Paywall article but one timer goals are going down - goalies are getting better at handling them I don't think we see some drastic change there

I'm not buying these as so-called "trends".

By and large, teams take the team that's given to them. Draft as well as you can, hopefully get some good collection of players and go from there.

Every team will follow Vegas's model for building their d-core. 6 big, mobile D who can lay the lumber and clear the front of their net.
