Alex Kovalev retires

I think it's worth mentioning. Great player that had a great career and was fun to watch up close when he played here. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=661513

What is your best Kovalev memory?

3 great memories for me (and then some).....Rangers comeback, Alex "Guy Lafleur" Kovalev and.....his elbow on Tucker. :D Thanks Kovy. Was mostly a whole lot of fun. :yo:

I enjoyed his time in Montreal and especially his elbow on Tucker.

Thanks for the memories Alex.

When he lost his glove behind the net with the puck and he took it back, that was pretty awesome.

He was an amazing player for the Habs and has not since been replaced on the Habs offense, maybe one day.

Kovy has been my favorite player all-time and only PK gets close to that level of fandom from me

I hope he comes to live in Montreal it would be great to have him around!

We talking about the same guy who was wearing Rags gear during the ECF?
When two of the teams he had played for in the past clashed in the ECF he chose to get decked out in the wrong red white and blue?
we talking about that kovy right?
I think he's managed to move on before you

You know I am a HUGE Kovalev fan...HUGE!

But after seeing him rock that Rangers t-shirt...I realized that his heart was no longer in montreal...

Here's the pic for those who didn't see...

Kovalev once said that if he was to be chosen for the HoF he'd go in Habs gear, so it doesn't really matters of he sports Rags stuff in NY, the team that drafted him and the city where he lives.

Kovalev was retired 3 out of every 4 shifts he played. #mercenary

Sure, but playoff Kovy was magical.

After the disgusting teams of the early 2000's, I had completely lost interest in hockey and then Kovy changed all that.

That 2008-9 season was the most entertaining in the last two decades.

Then, Gainey.

My favourite Kovalev memory is when it was first announced that the Habs re-signed him, only to later say that they did not sign him, and that the contract offer was revoked. That was the best. Kovalev sucks.

It's almost like he won a cup with the Rangers. :sarcasm:

One of my favorite Hab. He wasn't perfect but I never doubt his heart. He was money in the playoffs and I think he was the major reason hockey got popular in Montreal after some tough years.

It's almost like he lives in New York. :sarcasm: (At least I think he does)

But Kovalev is my favorite player all-time, he was a real magician and one of the most talented players I've seen play the game. The Tucker elbow, the two weird/nice goals he scored against Boston, dropping his glove and just playing, the Rangers comeback goal, were my favorite moments.

My favorite moment was the Tucker hit. I remember watching the replay of that over and over again

Second would go to that play against the Bruins. Where he drops his glove, and picks it up, without losing possession of the puck.

Best of luck in retirement.

1- THE Ottawa game from his return of knee injury.

2- Making Chara his ***** throughout his career( lifetime award)

3- OT goal in the playoffs against the Bruins(game 2?). Slap shot from the left board. Wired it.

So many memories, I still miss the excitement he brought to a game. He was electric here, no matter what the haters say.

Shout out the The Damned, someone should make sure he has things under control on this hard day for him.

Many amazing memories from this guy as a Hab. I truly believe he helped reinvigorate the fan base (for those not already and inexorably devoted, like most of us) with giving the fans a show. Koivu was a god to me, but this added that extra level and tbf we did achieve a lot with the both of them. Epic moments.

Still a little mad at him for selling out to the rags in the playoffs.

Much love to the former #27 and hoping the new one develops hands like his (not impossible).

Love the trademark walk off the half boards, quick fake...

how about coming down the wing vs Boston in the playoffs then ripping one right under the bar

Yes. That OTTAWA game on Dec 20 2005 as any Kovalev fan knows was such a dominant perfromance. Team had been on such a losing streak, Zednik, Koivu ,etc were injured and we were facing a dominant 4 goal a game team the Ottawa Sens with Heatley Spezza Alfredsson + Hasek. Kovalev dominated and brought us back after being down 3-0 to a 4-3 win. 1 goal, 2 assists and the shootout goal to seal it. It was amazing.

Boy could we use that talent on the wings now. I'd love to have a 32 year old Kovy back. What a treat to watch. That 07-08 season was fantastic and I truly thought he should get more Hart recognition.

That point of impact shot was my avatar for a year. I liked emotional give-a-**** Kovalev just didn't see it enough.

Not surprisingly I feel similarly about Kovalev and Vanek.

The thing with Kovalev is that when he was on, he controlled the flow of a game and dictated play. When Vanek is on, he just makes nice passes and tips pucks in.
