2025 for me because we could've set ourselves up pretty good to surround our Hart/Norris level player better with a good 2025 TDL.

In 2016 we were on the way down anyways so it didn't feel like as much of an opportunity cost.

Maybe its due to the 2025 TDL is still so fresh, that might have clouded my judgement. But at this point, 2025 is way more disappointing.

Shut it down.

I would have preferred another direction and moving on from Boeser. But it also wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't the offers we thought there could be, or really this was more of a negotiating tactic and they really just wanted him to stay. I would only call this a loss if Boeser leaves for nothing and/or we pay him a crazy contract that is out of whack with what other comparables are getting in free agency.

Not going to pretend like today was a success but you guys comparing it to 2016 Benning is just such a massive over-reaction. Take a breath, step away from the screen and just relax a bit.

I would have liked to move Boeser but there's still the draft. That and we have a ton of cap flexibility for next year.

This management group is aggressive and focused, if anything. Patience needed here.

this isn't a serious question that needs to be asked

we also made no moves last year at the deadline because all of the trades were done a month before, just like this year. they won't make moves that don't make sense for the team. once ottawa decided to trade norris for cozens instead of futures like a 1st and raty or whatever (which is totally understandable), i doubt there were many other targets on the board.

A lot of fans pretending they are interested in the long-term future of the club when they obviously just want a short-term dopamine boost.

Suter and Boeser simply aren't playoff-style rentals. Suter is small and slow, and Boeser is a boutique winger with health concerns. If you aren't getting a first+ for the latter (and sounds like nobody offered close), what's the point of trading him?

2016 by a long shot. They were near the bottom of the standings and couldn’t even use the self rental justification for keeping Hamhuis and Vrbata.
My take too. They were dead in the water in 16 and had no reason at all to keep them

2016 easily. The team was in complete denial that a rebuild was in order. And on top of that it was a horrific draft passing on Tkatchuk for Juolevi.

This one is a muddling mess given how the team clearly isn't going to acheive anything this year. I get that teams in the hunt typically don't sell but that's a lame excuse for the Canucks situation and it's obvious to just about everyone.

They also made no hockey deals nor took advantage of cap space (not that there was much of that today).

All in all, another disappointing chapter in what has been a terrible year.

I’m not pleased that they have Suter and Boeser unsigned and not traded. It might be we see a couple of contract extensions announced in the next 24-48 hours which changes things. I think people underestimate how hard it would be to replace Boeser so an extension there is the best thing. But, ya, it needs to be something they know is close to have decided not to move him.

Boeser didnt help his value post Miller trade, he was lost, his value plummeting is to be expected. I dont know Hankinson has a lot of leverage if an extension is really in the cards. So hes our self rental. I feel content about it.
Suter, if the value is low can also be folded into the self rental bracket. I'm mildly disappointed in the inactive deadline. this team is the definition of middling, reflected by our bubble position. Yet we dont want to abandon the team and sell off more pieces for futures if it pisses off our young Norris candidate. I can't say Im surprised.

On the bright side, they didnt trade away EP at the lowest ebb of his career, to me, they avoided a huge mistake, I can spin it in my head as a positive. Enjoy this year as its meant to be, a bubble team on the rise, wish that EP rebounds, that we can attract FAs with the tarriffs affecting our economy. most importantly, that Lankinen can fill in for Demko if we do make the playoffs. I think they can upset, but I highly doubt they can advance beyond the second whatever they pull off today.

Not getting anything for Hamhuis was one of the worst deadline plays ever by any GM

We’ll have to wait and see on Boeser. I’ve flip flopped on the best course of action for him. Maybe they get a solid deal done that isn’t too long. I’m not a fan of the idea of keeping him as a self-rental (If the team was in the position they were last year it’d be different), but at the same time, if nothing of substantial value was offered, it might not have been the worst thing either. Things are so touchy with the room and how to move forward to keep Hughes as well. With Hamhuis it’s like, there’s zero incentive not to even get a 2nd. He even said he’d come back after if they wanted to keep him

To some extent trading Boeser, Suter and Forbort for 'futures' would be like capitulating on the season. And ownership would have been less than enthralled.

There was always a chance from the beginning, that Vancouver would treat Boeser as an 'in-house' rental player. But if he walks for nothing on July 1st, then it would be a a major setback. And if they still fail to make the playoffs--it would be a 'double-whammy'.

I guess at the end of the day, their trades with the Rangers and Pittsburgh, were their TDL deals.
