Clearly we don't have the money.

I'm just pointing out that moving players up to the big club and thinking that these newbies are just going to replace Lucic's established ability and experience like we aren't going to miss him at all next season isn't really a vein of thought that makes much sense.

Not all rookies make huge impacts but when do you allow them to start playing? Especially your top prospects?

Lucic is a rental this year. He adds to the team with Williams gone and King down.

Mersch plays a similar game albeit not as mean. Kempe has loads of skill. Both could make the team next year. Ideally you keep Lucic and move out King but Lucic will just want too much money.

There is no money for Lucic

This. Kopitar will get the $$ and Pearson and TT , among others, have contracts expiring the following year. Given the shaky CAP perimeters, the Kings can't afford him. Also, Lewis has to be signed this year if they are retaining him.

Lucic knows the score, he didn't sign here as a FA and he knows they can't afford him. It's a weigh station between jobs. And the Kings have players ready to step up by next year from the AHL. They don't need Lucic.

Milan Lucic, Dustin Brown, David Clarkson, and Ryan Callahan are complimentary players. That's why the Rangers traded Callahan, and the Devils let Clarkson leave as a free agent. These teams didn't think they were worth as much money as the Kings gave Dustin Brown. I think the Kings regret giving a guy like Brown the type of money he's making. I doubt their going to make the same mistake with Lucic. Boston saw how Lucic played without Krejci, or Iginla on his line, without those 2 guys he looked like a guy who was worth 3.8 million, not 6 million. That's why he's a King now.

I voted 4-5 for 4 years, however not sure why Lucic would sign that deal. He would get much more as a UFA

Lucic was essentially a deadline deal that was done in the summer. I don't see how the Kings can afford to bring him back. If they were able to get him for like $4M at 4 years, I think they'd pull the trigger. But I don't think he'll accept that so it's probably a moot point.

It will be interesting to see what happens though. After last summer and lots of players going for less than expected, Lucic might find himself having to take a little less than he'd hoped for. If is production is around 40 points, I don't see how anyone can offer him much more than $4M on a 4+ year deal.

If he continues his production through the season, I have no doubt DL will give him an offer. I don't know if he'd accept. It depends on what his plans are for his career and likely the results of his time here.

Only way I give Lucic 8 years is if he wins the Richard, Selke, Art Ross, Hart, and Lindsay awards.

Oh and the Messier award for leadership.

Those that are saying to let him walk, I'd wonder how you'd feel if Lucic joined the dux top line with Perry and Getz.

Personally, I love Lucic, but like others have said, I don't think we're going to be able to afford him. There are going to be quite a bit of higher offers out there imo.

Lombardi has no choice other than to wait on signing Lucic. Personally, I would like to see how he performs in the playoffs before he gets a deal.

Lombardi needs to figure out the Kopitar deal first. Anze finally awoke from his offensive slumber in Edmonton last night. Let's see if it continues.

Nothing. The cap will not go up.

Low-mid 5's then max.

The Kings have what, around 20M of space next year? Forbort would have to replace Erhoff for sure, and minimal raises given to RFA's.

King would likely be gone the following season, so space not a big problem there.

Are you factoring in kopis 10mill per season cha ching?

Lucic is the type of player Lombardi will make room for. I have serious doubts Lombardi is looking at that acquisition as a rental only.

The question as to where the money comes from. If you look at the contracts and who isn't quite earning the dollar amounts they are being paid, it isn't hard to figure out who those pieces are.

You know the management wants him back, and I'm willing to bet that his teammates would like to see Lucic return. Can we afford him, is the main question.

And who's to say Lucic won't become that piece (Brown) you're referencing?

Yeah, sign him to the same contract... 6M 8 years.

Really the cap isn't all that tight. Sucks that cap geek is down

In addition to Brown with all the Left handed defense the Kings have you have to wonder if one can/will be moved in the future. Then there's also Greene that could free up 2.5M. Lots of space to trim.
