In the 2023 finals they allowed 26 goals in 5 games. 5.2 per game.
In 2024 they only allowed 23 in 7 games. 3.3 per game.

Could Panther fans tell me what adjustments you feel were made?
- Defensive system?
- New players?

PEDs, buying off the refs, improved elbowing, etc.

Number 1 was Tkachuk and (this cannot be overstated) Luostarinen being healthy. Eetu is a huge part of the Panthers.

Defensively, replacing Gudas with Mikkola and Staal with Kulikov were both big additions. Also replacing Nick Cousins with Tarasenko at the deadline was helpful lol.

Finally, the long layoff in 2023 made Bobrovsky human again, he was insane rounds 1-3. While he was good round 4, he had cooled off.

TBH I only think Florida was the better team in 2 of the 7 games last year (games 2,3, with 7 being a coinflip) but they won because Stuart Skinner is not an NHL starter caliber goalie. I expect if they win again, it'll be for pretty much the same reason.

Game 5 really bumps up the average. That's 9 goals in a game. Other than that, we are talking about 17 goals in 4 games. Not great but at 4.25 GA it is closer to 2024's 3.3. And like someone else said, Bobrovsky did not play well in the Cup final in 2023. But played lights out the previous three rounds. He was shaky in the 2024 Cup final too. Definitely hot and cold, just hot enough to win though. And in the games he won he was good.

IMO Oilers depth scoring was trash last playoffs. Goaltending wasn't great either but McDavid drove the offense with Drai having one arm.

This playoffs.. both teams have vastly improved depth scoring and both improved their backend (Oilers had Ceci and the rookie Broberg who were trash compared to Walman and Klingberg). Games are going to be 7-6 or 2-1 when goalies stand on their head.

Panthers Playoff 4th Line was unplayable in 2023.

Vegas had a massive edge in terms of Skaters 11-18 on the overall team hierarchy.

Zac Dalpe, Collin White, Ryan Lomberg, Radko Gudas, Nick Cousins, Anthony Duclair, Eric Staal, Josh Mahura.. that's collectively what one combined 12th forward (Lomberg/Cousins) for Florida a year later?

What's changed about Edmonton from last year to now:

More defenders with the ability to get the puck out and into transition. Felt like only Bouchard did it last year.

Experience. Everything they did wrong in the first three games SHOULD be a learning experience. Surely, they are smart enough to go up high on Bobrovski.

They don't look as exhausted. Draisaitl is healthier.

Florida was able to make key additions to get over the hump from 2023 to 2024. They seemed to learn. Edmonton has to do the same.

Forgot Marc Staal too, who was also washed and barely played in the NHL after that.

Yeah, that's 10-18, half a roster worth of crap. It's no wonder they were a random Buddy Robinson career game away from missing the Playoffs that year. Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Box Score: April 11, 2023 | Hockey-Reference.com

I was cheering for the Panthers to beat Vegas that year. I think the two biggest reasons were health and inexperience that year. When they got to the finals in 2024 they were fully healthy and had the experience and even more hunger after losing. They were the only team in the East I didn't want Edmonton to face that year because I just knew the Panthers weren't going to be stopped 2 years in a row.
