@LOFIN I Am reaching out to you because of the nature of your post, but am having a discussion with a colleague, hoping you might be able to clarify…
Did any “insider” ever confirm what discount Rantanen was willing to take in terms of a real number? I thought I had heard a number in a pod, but I can’t locate and wanted to confirm/learn.
I apologize for rehashing this on your team site. I cant imagine how much this pains, hurts and pisses you all off. Thanks in advance.

An insider? Not that I'm aware of. There are basically no real reports about what the number from Rantanen was. The number from the Avs is pretty credibly something around 11.5-11.75. From Rantanen camp, there are some who say he was looking for that Draisaitl contract. Some who say he would've been willing to take less than MacKinnon. Rantanen himself said he was willing to take a significant discount, but who the hell knows what that actually means.

Believe it or not, there's some of us who feel Necas is a better player than Rantanen has been for the past 1.5 seasons. Adding a responsible 3C in Drury along with 2nd + 4th round picks as draft capital has us feeling pretty good. I'm not speaking for everybody else, but I know there's a good chunk that feel this way.

Agreed, totally different players.
Marty will never finish like Rants could, but Mikko could also never skate, carry the puck, controlled zone entries, pass, etc. like him.
One thing's for sure, the trade opens up a little cap space. Not a lot, but it gives them some more wiggle room to try and do something else to fix this roster, and they obviously need to take advantage. Failure will not be an option. If this roster looks the exact same after the deadline, then CMac needs to be fired post-haste.
I do think Necas skills fit our team better and will be less frustrating than having to watch Rantanen get lazy offensive zone pens, force passes through ten guys, or fall down all the damn time. However, I do worry about the playoffs. Rantanen was built for the postseason and Necas...not so much.

Look, I think there are very good reasons to make this trade, and plenty of reasons to be excited about Necas. But this is one of the biggest copes I've seen at HFBoards, and it's not even at the main boards holy shit.

I’m entitled to my opinion. I was very frustrated with Rantanen’s play. I’m really enjoying Necas’ speed and ability to create danger that had been sorely lacking in Mikko’s play for over a year now.
I understand he’s your favourite player, you’ve said it many times. I don’t share your evaluation of him.

A few games removed from the trade, my thoughts haven't really changed.
My preference was to keep Rantanen. He's a potential HHOFer, and his goal scoring covered up a lot of issues... both his own and the team's. It can't be overstated how clutch he is in the postseason.
I've moved past losing him and like what I've seen from Drury and Necas. But I think the return was light. I don't think Colorado is better after the trade, nor do I think this deal filled their most pressing needs. They're more or less the same team, except with a worse top end, but more flexibility moving forward.
My ultimate takeaway is this move ushers in a new era of Avalanche hockey. There's so much talk about winning with this "core," but the team is lightyears removed from 2017, and bears less resemblance to 2022 with each passing day. This is a retool and winning again depends on the moves that come next.
