What are you thankful about in today's NHL?

I'm thankful that the game is trending toward speed and skill over size and grit. Don't get me wrong, a power forward or towering bruiser blueliner is still fun to watch. But clutch-and-grab goonery with staged 'fights' was boring hockey.

I'm also thankful that I got to see phenoms like Sid and Ovie for their entire careers so-far. Watching these two specifically has been a joy as a fan, and people don't appreciate it enough.

the accessibility of actual game content. Highlights and what have you. You have to actually try to miss a great highlight
Except for hawks fans. Still can't watch

I'd take the 4th lines of the 80s-15 to those of today.

Thankful for Lankinen because Silovs has been terrible. Alvin should be a GM of the year just for getting Lankinen as a backup option to Silovs. At least some GMs think about goaltending unlike some other organizations in our division 😏

Am also thankful for Oilers still employing Nurse and Skinner in their lineup. It makes for great entertainement.

1) I'm thankful I don't gamble on sports. If I did I would have kept on losing money betting on a leafs cup win

2) I am thankful for Hfboards, a forumn that allows for different takes and opinions and gives you very quick trade/signing details along with prospect breakdowns.

3) I am thankful I don't take hockey as seriously/religiously as when I was a teenager. More of an interest and hobby then being something I would spend most of my free time following.

Admittedly, I'm getting overly nostalgic lately about how the overall presentation of the game used to be like it was 15-20-25 years ago, so sadly I could really go off about all the things that I hate compared to the "good ol' days"

However, I'm happy to give this a go for the sake of the thread lol

1) I'm thankful for and appreciate the best talent like McDavid, Crosby, and Ovechkin. How they take over the NHL and show us that records can be challenged in the most skilled state the NHL has ever been in is really something special

2) There are still some really good PBP commentators and analysts out there. Even the TV analysts too like Mike Kelly on NHL Network. I actually still enjoy NHL Network and their analysts even after all these years. Have always appreciated Ray Ferraro, and for the local broadcast for my team Ken and Mick have always been great to listen to. Still are after all these years

3) I'm thankful that my team has legit skilled players once again and that the playoff drought may be over this season 🙏

I’m thankful that in November 2024, 8 and 87 still play well enough to be 2 of the 3 stars of the week. Not bad for 2 washed up vets!

Nice list, number 3 for certain. I like that. Makes guys like Dionne, St. Louis, even Cammalleri, Gionta, and Gerbe that much more impressive. Nathan Gerbe at 5'4 playing in NHL games and having a role is really understated. Even in the post lockout game it was still tougher than post lockdown for the smaller guys.

I am in no way affiliated with the channel, but I am appreciative of HSD Prospects on YouTube who somehow has prospect highlight videos for almost any prospect you can think of, even the lesser known ones. Damn do I appreciate a good prospect highlight package!

Parity and the cap, even though it's kicking my team's ass right now.

Also I like the growing supplementary content online like podcasts and even this site. Sports fans are in a golden age
