Depends on the remodeling that's done in the offseason. From a pure entertainment POV, Dubas' decision to stay with the Big 4 means there's no offseason fireworks or big roster changes at the top from year to year, so the new storylines and possibility of new impact players is kind of limited. Everything just feels kinda stale.

Nothing

Matthews could score 80 goals, Marner could win the art Ross, either way I would not care

We are gonna run into tampa or florida next year again, and I don’t see us beating either of them. So there’s nothing to look forward to next year

This team won’t win, they can’t win. It isn’t in their game to win. They have done everything but win.

Unfortunately I agree with you. And when this does happen, I’m sure it’s just going to be Tanenbaum on the podium at the end of the season press conference.

Only things I give a shit about are who we bring in and the playoffs. If we bring in players that deserve to be watched then I’ll watch. Even just two seasons ago I couldn’t miss a game. Now I watch other teams, mainly for fantasy hockey reasons (I like to watch the players I have on my fantasy team) but also because this Leafs team doesn’t really deserve as much of my time and energy as I once willingly gave to them every single year. This year for example I would tune in and tune out of games while watching other teams for fantasy reasons as noted above. Sure banking as many points as you can matters to face the weakest opponent, but the regular season means f*** all for this team and now that Matthews has won his trophies, nothing else is gonna impress me through 82 games. It’s the playoffs for me, that’s when my fandom erupts like the volcano that’s been brewing the entire regular season. GLG!!!

They were very close to having some success last year, so if they are keeping the same core and only adding around the fringes, I’ll be interested to see if the core is committed to winning or if they just don’t care.

If that is the plan, I’ll assume that Keefe and Dubas have had conversations with Willy and have given him an ultimatum.

With Leafs goaltending in shambles this off season and with no trusted #1 signed for next year, that will lend intrigue this summer to see how Leafs address this problem.

I'm not sure the goalie situation is as bad as some might think.
Really, they just need a capable NHL goaltender, and a backup with untapped ceiling.
While Campbell had some hot streaks, overall he was just good.

It's not?

As of now, our only NHL goalie is Mrazek so what do these Campbell/Reimer stats have to do with anything?

I'll probably watch most games this year, old habits die hard. I also am not resigned to losing again in the 1st round, there's just way too much talent on this roster to keep losing forever. We do need a #1 goalie though so I really hope Dubas gets that done somehow.

It only takes a NHL capable goaltender to match what they had this year.
They don't need to get a Shesterkin, if there was any available.
Avalanche won with a good goaltender.
Flames bounced with a Vezina candidate.

Both Mrazek and Kallgren gave the Leafs .888 sv% and > 3.30 GAA and they're the only ones under contract at present,

If the Leafs want to have more than regular season success they're going to need a reliable goalie. IMO

So another 1st round exit then, wonderful.

Yep, and injured Mrazek and a 25 year old rookie weren't good enough last season.

I swear some people here don't even like hockey. Just association with success.

I'm obviously looking forward to watching the Leafs play great hockey.

That could be ...

Assumptions,
There is no improvement in any of the players but there is decline.
Coach has learned nothing.
Refs continue to make phantom calls.
I imagine we'll see some players improve and some decline. I'd guess that there will be more improvement than decline, not sure if it will be enough to compensate for the players we will be without next season. But overall, in front of the goalie I'd expect roughly the same quality team that we had last season.

I hope the coach will have learned something but I'm not counting on that being true or being enough to make a difference.

Not going to comment on the refs.

We're in a tough division, and a save made or not made here and there could be enough to decide a series. Our goaltending was a question mark heading into last season and right now, it's a HUGE question mark. Maybe I worry too much, but I am worried.

Mainly i'd like to see a couple prospects make a splash. We pretty much know what to expect from the big guns in the top 6 but a whole lot of options would open up in the bottom or even middle 6 if a couple young guys outperform expectations.

I have watched them lose the last 7 years in the first round. I think it is hard in modern society with social media and everything else for a group of any individuals to play in a playoff style format in front of this many hardcore fans.

And yet other teams can do it.

The Leafs have had the horses to do it, they just can't jump that mental hurdle. They simply can't do it, whether they're up 3-1 or down 3-1 in the series, they will lose in 7 games.

So ultimately they are failures.

I for one don't care how they do in the post-season anymore, I'll watch and cheer.

Well that's original, and not at all effed up.

But, that big market pressure is going to wash them out in series #1. If they were in Florida or Minnesota with this team they would have gotten over the hump. This is a much tougher part of the jungle.

Give it a rest with the Toronto pressure crap. Fans in New York, Philly, Europe, and South America are much, much tougher on teams in other sports that still manage to succeed. Toronto is not unique or special so nobody gets a mulligan for playing in this market. And if the market is too much for them, then the little pansies should ask to be traded elsewhere.

So, I've chosen to focus on something they can accomplish.

No, you have chosen to accept continued failure. Attitudes like that are what allow for those continued failures.

They are a good regular season team. There isn't much pressure then. So, before they break up the band I'd like a presidents' trophy to add to the collection.

In other words, you want an absolutely meaningless consolation prize so that you can hold on to it in some sad attempt to pretend that they actually accomplished something.

We haven't seen evidence already?

The Leafs haven't had success in 55 years.

I think that is the worst part of being a Maple Leafs fan, this constant worry. First we don't have a team that can compete, once we get that it won't and we're worried that we lose all of our key guys. Would have loved to see that positive fraction from 2018 would have continued, but this rebuild with our teams history is really taking a toll.

I'm looking forward to exciting hockey and meaningful results when games really matter.

Do you remember what the England media in soccer did to Cristiano Ronaldo a few years ago?

His team won the championship and then the following season. They went on a 3 games losing streak in the regular season and a newspaper suggested that Ronaldo was out drinking and partying all week which was a major factor for the losing streak. And did I mention that Ronaldo’s father died of alcoholism and he promised his family that he would never drink???

So, stop with “The media is hard on the players” narrative, because it’s nowhere near true. They are club med compared to some other markets.

I'm looking forward to watching some entertaining hockey and seeing the Leafs with a chance to win the Stanley Cup.

Somebody has to win it. Why not the Leafs?
