-Work on the Ozone cycle and getting scoring chances off of it.
-Improve the forecheck to be more aggressive and consistent.
-Learn how to hit effectively.
-Improve teammate support both in the Dzone and Ozone, less puck watching waiting for a pass.
-Improve pass receptions along the boards.
-Improve 50/50 stick battles.
-Improve speed of decision making.
-Improve shooting accuracy. Hit the freaking net!

Basically, improving all the basic skills the game requires would completely transform this team.

Second line centre, Dach on the wing, Newhook on the 3rd and a defenceman who can score. Shore up the 4th with size. Boom.
I'm excited to see Dach play on the wing. My expectations are low but there's still hope he can be effective there.

Newhook I would personally trade this summer as part of a package deal for a 2C

Don't think we need a scoring defenceman, I think we'd be set with 1-2 guys that can play 6D as long as they're right handed. For now....

4th line with size - bring up Florian & Tuch....nuff said

Tuch I’m not so sure about. As long as Reinbacher can score, then I’d say we’re good, but the fact is, not one of their defencemen hit even 10 goals. That’s pretty bad. It was very noticeable and you need that scoring from the back end.

They got more consistency out of the group as the year progressed (& knew it was coming... That's what MSLs "about to flip" comments were all about).

I'm sure the focus from day one next year will be to pick up where we left off and keep building towards raising the floor even higher.

The other area is like to see some growth in is set plays... It didn't really seem like we had as many opponent-soecific exploitation plays drawn up as some of the top teams seemed to have.

I think the funniest disconnect between reality and the loud opinions on this board is regarding the system. They need to tighten up defensively but that's mostly due to inexperience and wild cards like Matheson. The system though is similar to what the Avs and Blues play and it was a major reason why they managed so many comebacks. Other teams had no answer when they got going. MSL has a few concepts he holds on to on offense which people mock, but they work. The one man high, the offensive zone being viewed as 3 layers, the use of the D either with low shots or as a fourth forward, all of that with the work they did to create fast transitions made the team very competitive this year despite a weak and young roster.

That said, they still need to tighten up things, be ready from the first period and use intimidation more.

I think improving faceoffs and having better balance in handedness would go a long way in set plays. One set play that they've tried doing is have Caufield go on a breakaway in OT once Dvo hops off the ice. Hasn't worked though.

1. Voted to start off the game with a bang, and learn how to play with the lead and keep pushing the pace as priority number 1. It's difficult to explain how this was an almost constant throughout the season.

2. Holding veterans accountable will be of utmost importance in the upcoming seasons, as youngsters will be vying for a roster spot on the team. The Laval Rocket was left almost intact all season long to give the farm team a solid chance of winning the Calder Cup. Some players will be deserving of call-ups next season, while others on this team (thinking Armia, Evans, Anderson, Gallagher, Newhook, Laine, Dach, Dvorak, Struble, Matheson, Xhekaj or any addition in the upcoming months) could go through a rougher patch.. This is all hypothetical, as we'll see post-offseason what the lineup looks like.

The coaching staff and management will have to be less lenient with the veterans. Missing the playoffs won't be acceptable next season. The bar, although flimsy and rickety, was set this year. If deserving and performing at a high level, the likes of Mailloux, Engstrom, F. Xhekaj, Tuch, Beck, Barre-Boulet, Farrell or Davidson shouldn't be shunned out.

To me the every defensive system as it draw back we need better execution, if they can execute man to man the should be able to execute zone but likely need to play more of a hybrid system

I don’t have an issue with MSL giving chances but I feel like he is not always picking the right time to be tough and maybe that was in part him learning and for some player or him self…

shootouts, lot of weird decisions not using Dach when the like 13 rounds and slotting Demidov 4th with the season on the line when he been the best player on the ice all game… imagine the pressure if we when to the 4th shooter, he is hot get him to go 1st and have CC or Laine 4th with the season on the line…

MSL will be better with the team getting better…

Start on time, but that isn't entirely on the coaching staff.

That's on the leadership group and on Hughes as he needs to bring in real energy forwards.

A better PP system, but again that's not entirely on the coaching stuff. It's not just on the system, but the players. The Habs need someone who's an absolute menace in front of the net AND actually big enough to screen the goalie.

Whether that's tell Slaf, or go and sign/trade for someone who can.

They need to hold vets accountable.

Usage of timeouts 100%.
Well, they start slow, and it’s annoying, but playing their best in the 3rd and never quitting are very good signs.

Getting Duchene (dreaming?) and a reliable RD would be great.

Starting on time is also not something as simple as Marty giving a war speech , at some point its on the group as a whole and the problem runs deeper than just Marty getting the boys riled up , probably has to do with preperation or fatigue/practice regiment , I'm sure the entire front office is well aware and will take steps to improve the slow starts.

The incredible heroics in the third periods pretty much negate the slow starts , so we are lucky that at least we look good at some point in games haha

Start on time - at the game level and at the season level.

Many have already mentioned that we can't afford to always start late in the game, and the players have to question whether their routine/habits are adequate. Maybe hire a consultant or have a dietitian/trainer give players a reminder of healthy habits to peak an hour earlier?

It looks like I'm the only one here holding a grudge that their training camp was an absolute shitshow (busier punching OTT's fuglies than to practice a system) and it took 10-15 regular season games before the team was half-decent. It's just sad because maybe the playoff outcome would have been different, had we not overplayed Monty and Savard down the stretch to make up for it. You can blame the players but I blame the coach, he needs to completely overhaul his camp approach. People will say the team grew enough this year to naturally not suck as much next year with the same formula - but I'm not as convinced. Complacency cannot be tolerated with this young group, it's the biggest risk after finishing this season on a high.
