What a Season!

You have every right to feel this way but try watching this again and you might not think it was meaningless. This showed me that this group of players never gave up which in the past down 3-1 we might have. Yes we had a couple of bad games in the playoffs especially Helly but we also had some great games in the playoffs and we fought hard right to the very end.

Wow had I made such a negative post I'd be called named lol
I would not say they were bad as much as the teams they played took their games to the next level. The physicality in the St.lou series was unmatched and the skill/depth/tending/experience Dallas has showed but 2 shutouts at home and an OT loss without the Jets top dman shows this team can compete but is a few pieces and/or more playoff experience away from taking the next step.
The top 4 regular season teams are now out. It speaks volumes about the difference between regular season and playoff success.

Too early to think about who the Jets are losing since nobody has been lost.
Remember all the doom and gloom of losing Scheifele and Hellebuyck after the VGK series?
2C can also be fixed by getting a Sam Bennett/Tom Wilson winger.
I would have no problem losing Ehlers or Vilardi for that type of playoff grit winger.
Protecting Morrissey should be a top priority ... DeMelo as partner cannot do it for the playoffs. I would even move him down to third pairing.
Perfetti and Samberg made a big jump this season hopefully next season just one of the prospect steps up and the Jets should be in good shape if no major injuries occur.
It would be nice after this great season & playoff run some FA players seriously think about signing with the Jets.

The doom and gloom about losing Scheifele and Hellebuyck was very different. They each still had 1 year to go before UFA. Huge difference right there. Right or wrong, the belief was that they had indicated they would not extend here. Ehlers doesn't need to play another game. He is effectively already a FA, just waiting out the clock now and less than 1.5 months to go.

Bennett would fix 2C assuming he plays C, not W, but I very much doubt that we could get him. Wilson does not fix 2C. I suppose that a couple of wingers like that would make Names or Perfetti look more like a legit 2C. I don't know where we might get them though. They don't grow on trees.

Agree about DeMelo/Morrissey. JMo needs a partner with some size and physicality. Another thing not easy to find.

I don't see any prospect ready to replace Ehlers.

We need a 2C, a 1RHD, a 2W. We have prospects for each of those needs but they are all at least a year away from the NHL and then another year or 2 before they are really ready to carry the load. That is assuming they succeed at the NHL level.

I don't want to see this thread sidetracked into a "what next" discussion. It is just to celebrate the fantastic season Jets gave us. So I will reiterate:
Presidents Trophy!
2nd consecutive Jennings Trophy!
Fewest G allowed (see above) and by a pretty wide margin. Tied for 3rd in G for. Multiple long winning streaks. Very high probability of going home happy if you shelled out for tickets to a home game. Pretty good chance of the same if you attended a road game somewhere. 12 players with 10 or more G, 4 with 20 or more including a 39 and a 41! The fantastic regular season followed by a gritty playoff performance that fell just short.

Obviously winning the Cup would have been better, but short of that it is damn hard to imagine a better season.

Edit: Left out best goal differential in the league, again by a pretty big margin.

Huge step as a team, exciting season. Key lessons in playoffs were learned. The Blues matchup was the worst for us, mostly because their game plan was to hurt guys, and they did. For them it worked, if not for that miraculous 2 minutes in game 7, they won and they hurt our key guys.

Against Dallas, we played quite well, but certainly Morrissey played with a concussion and something else, 55 was great but we know he took a beating in round 1, Schenn had broken ribs, Stan was injured not a key player but shows how physical it was. Perfetti played great in round 1 but I believe he was battling something as well.

I'll just say, I would have rather played any other team in round 1. That hurt us for round 2. Arniel could have rotated some guys in to make up for it. There is no sense playing Schenn at 50% health, or even Morrissey with a head injury.

Having fresh legs is valuable, maybe we weren't as deep as we thought. And some guys elevate in the playoffs, some guys don't.

Pionk was tremendous. Samberg was quite good, DeMelo was steady. 55 was excellent and scored big goals. Ehlers got better as it went on. KFC had trouble in round 2. Lowery was fine, and probably suffered from that first round as he got rocked several times.

Helle shower up in round 2, we had opportunities to win game 6 that he gave us. That 1st round was troubling.

As far as adding at the deadline, Tanev has one good game against the Blues, Schenn was not great, and was injured.

The best additions on D other teams were Cam Fowler and Seth Jones. Highly criticized players, who were playing on awful teams but are studs on good teams.

Schenn and Tanev were probably negative but maybe positive in the locker room.

We'll grow and be better for it.

Things I would like to see happen to the team ....

-Winning the Central
-Winning the Western Conference
-Winning the President's Trophy
-Going at least 2 playoffs rounds and being competitive/resilient in the Playoffs this year and going forward in all aspects of the playoff game (offense/defense/power play/penalty kill/goaltending/coaching/GM)

From another thread; I think my prediction wasn’t that far off

Yup, had Minnesota not stunk up their season at the end we could have played them in round 1 and not been pounded to pulp for round 2. Blues got away with a LOT of late hits and I don't think any of our guys were 100% by game 7.

I really think a healthy Jets team could have gone all the way. Next year is another shot.
