Coaching has been fine aside from Copp on the PP and that’s just foolish, also question how Copp ends up with more minutes than Laine, Roslo and Ehlers most nights!
Coaching hasn’t been fine. We are not playing a system that suits the talent we have. Playing prevent defence just puts more pressure on our bad defence. We create nothing off the rush. We rarely get the puck into the slot so our shooters can shoot. It’s safe low event (only on offence really) hockey.

Innoculation is the right word. He has PoMomunity.

I feel like he's actually been worse overall since early last season. He had a rep in college for strong D, based largely on his speed getting back and his tenacity, but in his own zone he often looks clueless in terms of positioning and anticipation, and rarely seems to carry or accurately pass the puck out.
He lacks awareness, but his main problem is complete ineptitude in zone exits when he has the puck near the boards between the top of the circle and the blue line. Laine fumbled the puck and it led to a goal and many went crazy. Connor coughed up the puck along the boards inside his blue line 4 or 5 times last night.

:laugh::laugh:

I don’t think he has the vision to use his team mates like Ehlers or even Roslovic. I can’t remember the last time he made a terrific play that wasn’t completely obvious.

I will go out on a limb and say that he may be dragging down his lines. Wheeler is doing better without him and now 55/29 are doing poorer with him.

I’m not sure what he adds to the PP either.

Flame away!

4 or 5 times you say? I don't recall seeing anything like that - must have been my homer glasses :sarcasm:

It's almost as if PoMo is gaming Corsi....
xG is somewhat more predictive than Corsi, but not much. I think they measure somewhat different things, particularly when a team is playing to avoid risk, as the Jets are. I think the Jets are making a mistake in their risk aversion, but I don't think they're as bad as the xG metrics suggest.

I was at the game and stopped counting at 4. Watch a replay of the game and you'll see what I mean.

I was in my man cave and I didn't see what you saw -
Did some digging and found that he had one turnover in the game (not always the same as "cough up's" I guess).
Not saying he doesn't need work in his own end - but I am disputing your call out.
There were a lot of turnovers last night - in all zones - some get mentioned, don't - depends on which way the wind is blowing in Jetsville.

I was joking because our Corsi hasn’t been aligned with xGF

I'll stand by my assessment. I don't pay attention to turnover stats. They are highly flawed.

I think I understood. My point is that I am not sure the Jets are as bad as their xG metricsa, and I do think their strategy is skewed to producing Corsi results more than xG, mostly because of their risk aversion, combined with bad defensive play, including by Morrissey who hasn't been up to his usual calibre.

Small and skilled is good hockey, but big bruisers win games, especially when the playoff rules come out.

Tell that to Chicago, or Pittsburgh.

Intensity is higher in PO. Refs let more stuff go. Big bruisers - who lack skill - still lose.

Quick thoughts...

CSL - Oof... They really struggled. Connor with about 5 turnovers on failed zone exits. It was almost comical. Laine had no legs and no hands. Scheifele not much pop.

EWR: Wheeler driving the bus tonight. Huge game from him. Ehlers was flying. Roslovic with a good game. I really like this line, and Wheeler continues his good play at C.

CLP - Not as dominant as they are sometimes, but they are so solid. Copp is a beauty. Lowry with a very nice pass to Perreault.

LGS : Oh my goodness, they are terrible! Shaw is utterly incapable of handling the puck under pressure. Luoto has no idea where to be or go. Gus needs more speed.

7-4 Pionk with a really gutsy game. His effort level is good and he has great mobility. He's a good find. Kulikov tries hard, but he just doesn't have the game to play this much.

44-3 Poolman still makes mistakes, but I like how his game is developing. Didn't notice Morrissey much, even before his injury.

88-5 : Might be the worst D pair in passing in the NHL.

Brossoit with some very good saves, but did seem to be fighting the puck at times.

Refs were atrocious.

I didn't see any problem with Brossoit. He made a lot of VG saves. He was not scored on at ES. The PK in front of him was weak.

I liked Poolman. Made some really good passes and carried the puck well a couple of times. But he does still make mistakes. Doesn't everybody?

Best game from Wheeler in a while. I think he was mad. Roslovic just keeps getting better. The points are going to start coming very soon.

So, the perfect replacement for Andrew Ladd. :sarcasm:

Good goaltending, luck and bad coaching.

Not surprising, only Lowry and Copp find chances in the slot with any consistancy and they score once in a blue moon.

As long as we're not hanging up any banners at BellMTS (like a certain other NHL team), I'm ok with that
