Maybe it’s the coach/system?

Killorn 8 GP zero goals
Zegras 8 GP zero goals
McTavish 8 GP zero goals
Gauthier 8 GP zero goals
Fabbri 8 GP one goal
McGinn 8 GP one goal
Vatrano 7 GP zero goals
Leason 7 GP zero goals
Lundestrom 6 GP one goal

Note: I’m not counting empty net goals for this.

Always thought he was a Poor Man's Mat Barzal, seems to be that way currently. Though Mat Barzal is looking rather poor himself to start this year.

He’s a play maker….

Vatrano, mctavish and gauthier have a combined 0 goals…. And supposed to be our goal threats. This is much more concerning to me.

Our power play is 7.7 percent(2 goals, and 1 was terry going 1 on 4 while team made a line change)

The system is terrible, but I don’t feel like zegras has played bad personally…. But something does seem off and I won’t exactly be shocked if the parties part ways and move on

He was never that good. Hugely overhyped on HF. The book is out on him and players have figured out how to stop him. He could probably succeed in the right situation but he was never going to be a superstar.

Didn't help that EA put him on the cover of their game after his sophomore season, which while decent wasn't some world breaking performance.

Lots of elite skills. And he can play a bit of a rat role too. When he is traded, which (imo) will happen this year, he will excel on his new club. A team like Boston would be the ideal spot for him.

Agreed…. unfortunately something seems/feels off in Anaheim.

I don’t agree with that. I think Anaheim are a year away from competing for a playoff spot. If they can somehow get their offense going a bit this year, they can probably already still be in the mix in Feb-March
Being a Ducks fan before a Knights fan, I hope you're right .... but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I think we have some serious coaching issues…. If you’ve watched Anaheim we barely look like a nhl team compared to our opponents.

Our saving grace is dostal

Yup. Zegras needs to move on to a new club where he isn’t expected to be the star of the franchise. On Boston or other really good teams with elite players he could fit a role where he is a support guy for a couple seasons. Imo he’d do great in that role. He could just go out and play. The Canes would be another good spot.

I’d still prefer to wait until we see a coaching change…. But Idk that we will.

The whole team needs to get going but the talent is there

I haven’t been able to watch too many Ducks hockey this year but the few periods I watched I thought they had the talent to compete but something was off

Cronin is Verbeek's hire. Something about these rebuilding clubs and their new GM's first coaching hire are struggling or fired. Yzerman with Lalonde in Det, Grier with Quinn in SJ, Verbeek with Cronin in Ana.

Let's face it. Accepting the HC job for a rebuilding club isn't desirable. Unlikely to be there long term as the message you give your players, they need to see some results to keep going. Otherwise, they tune you out. And the team isn't at the stage to really compete.

Agenda threads are fun. Vatrano, Gauthier and MacT all have zero goals but let’s bag on Zegras because he’s scored Michigan goals and he’s wicked fancy. We hate wicked fancy.

Maybe the team just sucks this year because it’s halfway through a rebuild….

It's 6 years of missing the PO, with the team acquiring 4 extra firsts over that span. Change in GM, but Murray wasn't trading away futures before he stepped down. Ducks are at the stage where they need to build up the roster to move up the standings. Don't think the expectation should be to go from 3rd worst to a WC2 over 1 off-season because the kids all figured it out. Kids are too young to have done anything to compete for the PO. Need to see growth from the kids, otherwise, it's a failed season.

17 point gap between where the Ducks finished at 3rd worst to 5th worst. So, they had a ways to go to get back to a decent level.

I think they should go the Detroit route with mid level vets shorter term to surround the kids and just let it roll till they click. Zegras does look like a new start wouldn’t hurt him but I don’t think you’re getting the value you got from the last trade. I like Zegras though, the talent is there and I think there’s more to him than the flash.

A merchandise selling "all flash no substance" type of player. He is perfect if you are an expansion franchise or a team trying to sell tickets but he's a very average player to a true contending or soon to be contending team.

Is he a bad player ? No. Any player capable of putting up 60 pts at the NHL level must have some sort of redeeming quality. That said when it comes to Zegras it's all about show and spectacle. On that front he delivers for sure but is he the guy i want when things get real tough in the playoffs ? Hmmm no he's not

Not that surprising. This board had him pinned as overrated about three years ago. Even before his drop in production.
