Last I heard he was likely retiring, but I thought insiders were saying he would be making a decision shortly after FA opened in July?

Seems weird we haven’t heard anything official yet, one way or another.

I imagine if he wants to continue playing, hell decided by training camp.

Hes an all time competitor so if he wants to play hes going to be all-in.

I know he’s old and injury prone but still think he’s got enough in the tank to be a hell of a 3C for a year or 2. Plus we love old players.

I would love for the Pens to somehow get rid of Carter and sign JT
Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Letang, Karlsson. If only it were 2013, that would be absurd to even consider.

Seems his health is going to decide this. A personal matter so hard to speculate on that. Especially if it's still issues with COVID since it's only a 4 year old disease.(they grow up so fast)

At this stage of his career, if he wants to continue, I'm sure he'll sign with a contending club. No point in just hanging on with a rebuilding club for the sake of extending his career. It should be interesting if he feels well enough, and signs on somewhere....

Might as well get Kane and Toews and go for a true geriatric cup
I don’t even see this as that outlandish, as long as Kane’s contract demand aren’t that high. And they shouldn’t be.

Rust could easily be traded. Carter would be a harder deal. But I would swap those 2 out for Kane and Toews in a heartbeat

I think he's done.

Though Hossa is having a 'Goodbye Game' filled with tons of former teammates and NHLers (lots of old Hawks, Chara, Gaborik, etc) in less than two weeks and Toews is on the list; so Johnny is lacing them up for that game at least.
