The Oilers need to take a fine on this one IMO and absolutely blast the NHL officiating. These refs just declared it open season on Connor and that needs to be put to bed immediately. How it's possible they let a guy without the puck get held and harassed for 20-30s with no call, until they called McDavid's penalty. Disgraceful.

Rip'em a new one Oilers management! Protect your captain other wise forget any sort of playoff run this year as other teams will just do the same thing.

They won’t because Knob is a coward and Bowman owes Bettman for giving him a second chance. We don’t stick up for our players here, on or off the ice.

Hopefully this will be McDavid's moment to pull a Lemieux and call out the garage league....

He should do that and also sit out the Four Nations. Everyone knows the league wants to use him to market it, so f*** them. They need to treat Connor fairly and if not they lose the privilege of profiting off his talent.

It would also give him some much-needed rest. Let Gary fine him/the team, his temper tantrum would be fun to watch after ten years of abuse our way.

I agree, I’ve never seen a NHL coach say he doesn’t value hitting. We sometimes get 3-4 hits a game meanwhile our stars take hits constantly. Did Petey get hit even once last night? We let other teams stars off the hook, they have nothing to fear. A little punk like Garland is free to get under the skin of a guy like Mcdavid because there is no deterrent.

Hard to argue with Knobs record but I do fear come the playoffs we will struggle…

Wonder how excited Parros is to have a chance to suspend McDavid when we were about to pass his home team in the standings.

Looking at the game, I think Knob's going overboard with slow guys trying to find this team some toughness. I do think they need a physical answer on the roster, but for now that needs to be Perry OR Brown, and they need to skate as a 4th liner.

I absolutely hate Brown on defence, even if he hasn't been that bad (hell, I actually thought he did decent work on the PK). He just can't make plays with the puck, which breaks their flow on attack and slows everyone down. Plus he gives forecheckers an easy corner to chip the puck in on.

Honestly, I'd be cool with something like Kap-Philp-Brown as the 4th line for heavier matchups. But please, for the love of all that is good, end this experiment with him on defence. (at least at evens)

Even better, find a way to turn Skinner's (now unused) roster spot and cap space into someone like Kostin, who more naturally fills the role of physical 4th liner with size and I will be a happy man.

I’m really getting annoyed with Knoblauch for a number of reasons and this is just one of them.

Maybe he’s reached his ceiling as coach, he’s recycling way too many of Woodcroft’s crutches instead of getting the most out of his entire player group.

11-7, McDrai and sheltering defensemen wear down key players over time. He doesn’t keep lines together for more than 1-2 games, and cohesion is important. Bad early starts are a sign of a lack of preparation, and after last year with a good focus on own zone play, he’s given it up to chase Corsi and “deny entry” and our goalies are facing too many wide open looks.

Team toughness is a choice, you don’t get it by throwing in an 8th defenseman and 14th forward, it needs to be instilled in the whole group, but that’s par for the course when certain players are given a pass to work on defense.

Even with a good deadline, I’m concerned for the postseason, he needs to get it together or he’ll be outclassed against better coaches when the chips are down in a 7 game series.

Nothing to see here. Surprised Nurse didn’t get a penalty for his leg taking Petey’s stick away.

Yeah we're gonna have to call a holding the stick penalty on Darrell's right leg. That clown Wes McCauley would love to skate to centre ice and make that call on the microphone.

I actually can't believe people thought Wes was ever a good ref just because of his "funny" (they weren't) hot mic announcements of penalties. This guy is as bad as Chris Lee, who might be the worst ref in North America tied with Kozari and that other idiot that Vancouver fans think is out to get them, but really they just needed excuses for losing to Edmonton in the playoffs last year and that was their safety net to cope with before the games were even played.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that meeting. Biting his tongue in the press for years on biased, lackluster and stilted officiating and the stick work he gets every game that goes uncalled.

McCauley is the new Mick McGeough. People liking his boisterous calls has totally gone to his head. Just a total idiot out there now.

Pretty much. McGeough might also be one of the worst refs I have ever watched.

This team hits in the playoffs and they have no problem flipping a switch. I'm not worried about them trying to stay healthy during the regular season and saving it for playoffs.

Good suspend him, give him a few games off to rest and reset. Force knob to abandon riding them as hard as he has been and get the rest of the team on a more even keel. Plus this is an opportunity for the Oil to expose some of the crap he’s dealing with.

Honestly don’t see a downside here.

When did he say this? What I read is that Klingberg will join the Oilers for practice on Monday and the coaching assess where he is. Gregor said at some point during the home stand. I haven’t heard Monday mentioned at all

My 7 pound Shihtzu is better than Brown. Probably more feisty too. He doesn’t take shit
Oh then I must have misheard. There is no game on Monday is there?

Are they really though? I swear I see more Crosby 4 Nations shit than McD

Even more reason then. Crosby is not what he once was, let the NHL try and make their shiny new in-season event about a 37 year old on a non-playoff team and watch the TV ratings plummet.

I really hope McDavid sits at home after this level of disrespect. He’s put up with literal years of abuse, time for Gary to pay the pied piper.

Fair would be to suspend Myers, Garland and Connor equally. But we know that wouldn't happen as it exposes incompetence at the officiating level.

I’m often perplexed by what constitutes as trolling on the mains

Most sane places would consider that trolling, but I guess not
Anything that degrades the city of Edmonton, the Oilers as an organization and Oiler players = good posts

Anything that defends the city of Edmonton, the Oilers as an organization and Oiler players = you’re a horrible human being, thread bans to follow and privileges suspended.

Very similar to how the league is run.

That about sums it up I think🤣.

Nah I don't see this. They look like a team that hasn't had a proper practice in 2 weeks due to travel, and the edges(attention to detail) are starting to fray.

Honestly I'm happy they got punched in the mouth last night and finished the road trip on a sour note: They needed it imo, as it snapped them back to reality after they were winning games that they weren't playing well in. Plus this team (normally) does better when it's a little pissed off vs. just riding high.

On team toughness, I think a bigger issue is having guys that purely respond to things happening, vs. initiating s**t and making themselves the focus of the opposition's ire.
A great example is the year with Kane and Kostin. Teams generally left McDrai alone, not because those two intimated other teams (f**k no), but because oppositions were losing their s**t chasing those two around trying to contain the fires they started.
Even last year LA, focused a ton on Kane, and that drew (some) attention away from McDavid and Drai.

Also on Brown, I think part of the reason he's gotten an extended look was to see how the rest of the defence looked if they added a slow guy with limited puck skills (looking at Savard/Murphy). Judging by how quickly Klingerbg was signed, it seems like they didn't like what they saw.
