If this is a moment the NHL didn't want they sure have a funny way of showing it. They've clearly shown they don't give a shit about their marquee player and are more than willing to let it come to this.

Though I'd be tempted to argue McDavid's crosscheck was somewhere between a 2 and 5. He got Garland in the neck, but he didn't jump into like in the Matthews' example.

Myers' one was far more viscous imo.


Though I expect the Oilers will take this chance to put the refs on blast during the call, like the Flames did a few years back.

This team has 2 of the highest scoring players, along with a style that focuses on controlling the puck for the entire game, and yet they can't get calls? I'm not even asking for rates like COL or TB, how about even middle of the pack? They're currently 30th in the league.

Other mitigating factor for McDavid - Garland is going to punch him in the face, and actually does punch him in the face as the cross-check connects.

It's either he cross-checked him, or he just let's the entire league know that you can use wrestling take downs, mash his face into the ice, and punch him repeatedly without a penalty or any other repercussions.

As an Oiler fan - I take him throwing the cross check over the alternative 10 times out of 10. Make guys think twice.

This is the moment the NHL didn’t want but now that it’s here we should capitalize on it. Blow this up into a big debate about whether or not McDavid has the right to be frustrated with all the missed calls that he has to fight through. Make the league uncomfortable with the discussion.

Then maybe we’ll see some change.

I think we got a little too cute scratching BOTH Kapanen and Skinner just to dress Philp and Brown. You're taking a lot of skill out of the lineup for very little benefit with those moves. Our offence looked like it was lacking.

f*** I hate the Canucks so f***ing much. I get we were out of gas, but like put some pucks on net instead of trying to pass in a lot of situations in that third. 3 shots? Jesus. I don't know what it is with that f***ing team, but they have our number in the reg, and it's f***ing frustrating. Was in and out for small periods during the first so I missed the reffing. How bad were the penalties called? Saw they missed the obvious trip on Nurse on one of their PP goals. Spotting the other team a few goals was bound to catch up to them though.

This gives the Nucks too much credit. its like hating mosquito's because their pests and are nothing and have a limited lifespan. Nucks aren't important enough to even lose any sleep over.

Don’t even need special treatment. Just call the obvious penalties, which would be about 20 a game. Every player watching tonight saw what happened, you can take him out for the last 30 seconds of a game by holding him, without retribution by the refs, win the game, and bonus, he will be the one suspended. I'd suspend those refs for the same number of games as the players are suspended.

Incompetency shouldn't be rewarded/ignored as the refs caused that entire situation to occur and it led to dangerous plays on the ice because of their negligence/incompetence.

Honestly, I bet the refs tonight do get a tongue lashing. We know the league is half rigged, but they do not want their top stars getting suspended.
