Post-Game Talk: Well we knew it would be a slog

I’ll take the advice and leave you guys alone. My opinion on the series won’t change but at least you guys won’t have to hear it.
We have until Monday night to see where things go from here. No sense in all of us beating each other up until then. Your take is definitely noted and I'm sure that you'll agree with me when I say that hopefully you are 100% wrong. Take care of yourself and try to get your mind off of last night's loss.

They have proven me wrong all playoffs but this series feels different but yeah, hope I’m wrong.

Skinner deserves another game. If he stumbles or gets rattled though I think that it's Pickard time.

I feel like dressing a fresh Pickard, a fresh Stecher, and fresh Jeff Skinner would give us a significant edge over Florida energy-wise after playing nine periods over two games. Stu has never played this much hockey in such a short amount of time and we know he plays better with rest. Then he can come out rested for Game 4 against a tired Bob!

Idk if I’d start Pickard just yet but otherwise I agree. Get some fresh legs, we’re deeper. Some guys looked useless last night.

Who’s Florida sitting? An injured Greer? We got more in the chamber, use that ammo

I hated that GWG last night but Skinner has been pretty good and he already had a break, he basically missed a series and just had almost a week off. FaceTime the wife and kids or whatever and lock in, revenge is still on the table and we have to kill these villains for the whole hockey world

Guys like Frederic, Henrique, Janmark, etc are really bringing nothing to the table right now. With 97 killing penalties we can afford to try bringing in some young blood in hopes it sparks a bit more offence.

Id bring in Jeff Skinner along with one of Philip or Savoie. Pickard in net.

Some of our guys are beat. I’m shocked Perry is still hanging on. Henrique and Frederic in particular are very bothersome to watch out there. No legs at all.

There is no reason to pull Skinner.
A whole lot of overreaction to a flukey goal isnt nearly a good enough reason.

Just like the overall series (the battle between both teams) the battle between Bob and Skinner is razor thin.
Skinner hasnt been an issue at all...to the contrary he is a big part of why the team won game 1.

Honestly, both Bob and Skinner will be fatigued, but we can play our backup, unlike Florida. I'd 100% start Pickard with the assurance to everyone that Skinner starts Game 4.
Just one game of rest for Stu, for the Game 4 performance of course

If he rests one game his Game 4 will be massive (shutout?)

I just hope that at the end of it we are hoisting the cup. Otherwise it will feel like a gigantic kick to the balls.
If anyone can take a gigantic kick in the balls it’s us Oilers fans. I’m not even dreading the prospect of losing, that’s what we’ve experienced my entire time as an Oilers fan.

Winning would be like winning the 649, it would be just amazing. But when I lose the 649 it’s just another day of not being a millionaire

Toronto took them to 7 missing their starting goalie.

The bottom six and even the entirety of the D corps don't get it.

Watch the third and the OT periods. Florida is holding and doing interference plays that would be penalized in the regular season. They do it, they get away with it. So they keep doing it.

Yet the Oilers bottom six and D isn't holding and doing interference plays that are clearly being let go. Are they collectively stupid?

If they don't pick up the subtleties of the officiating standards by next game the Oil are lost.
They’re scared of getting called for the exact stuff Florida gets away with. I don’t blame them at all. Imagine holding a guy and you get called, Florida PP wins the game. You just look like an idiot complaining to the refs, just sounds like excuses even if the other team got away with it.

Like those retaliation calls last night. How can you ignore the first penalty and call the second? Why not let both go? Isn’t it the finals?

MAYBE they can get away with more late in a game or in OT but they don’t trust the refs and I don’t either.

I don't disagree that Stu is a big part of why we won Game 1, but it wouldn't be a permanent pull, just a game off to take advantage of a fatigued Bob and give Skinnner rest, with it being made clear that he will be back for Game 4!

How many playoff OT games has Stu played? Much less back to back ones, with one presumably being his first ever double OT game? I think Pickard is a lot closer to Skinner than people think, and as @Drivesaitl pointed out, might better suit Florida's style. 100% Skinner comes back for Game 4 win or lose for Pickard unless it's like a 50-save shutout with high dangers galore.

Also, he might be sore from Bennett's bullshit.

Both clubs are not trusting the officiating and for both clubs the threshold of what is a penalty in first period vs rest of OT or game is completely different. Ekblad got a penalty early for a play that D are making 100X in this series. Was a weird call. Seemed like an even up call for the sake of it.

Seems weird as well to be complaining too much about officiating in a game where we had 6/10 PP's and we had a long two man advantage and we gave up a shorty and were only 1-1 on our own PP while giving up 2 goals on only 4 Panthers PP's.

Officiating to me isn't the reason we lost tis game. We had more PP's in this game than in 95% of our games this entire season. I think only once all year did we get one more, 7PP's. We've NEVER had this many PP's all year in games where McD and Drai were playing. I'll take it.

If this is true what chance do we have? It was shift after shift of clutching and interference by Florida. If they didn't win after that they were never going to win. And they won. Very frustrating.

Shouldn't being in the Stanley Cup Finals make you feel good? Who's feeling good?

People here saying that we haven’t seen Floridas best game, maybe it’s because we’re not letting them play their best game. We’ve outplayed them in the 1st and 3rd periods of each game and most of the OT time.

Barkov line is getting caved, Florida doesn’t play their 4th line and their top 4 D are playing huge minutes. The longer this series goes then our chances to win increase significantly and Florida knows it. The only reason we’re not up 2-0 right now is because Bobrovsky has been slightly better than Skinner.

Getting some fresh legs in the lineup could be a huge boost for us. Stecher for Klingberg and Skinner for Frederic. Or go 11-7 and double shift McDrai or RNH on the 4th line to counter Florida getting last change.

Its an interesting way to look at things thats for sure.
I Just think that there is more value in showing confidence in Skinner at this time.

I gotta admit the Bennett bullshit line line literally made me laugh out loud.

I think we're all a bit fatigued with the Sam Bennett show (I know I sure am) and how the refs (for the most part) refuse to hold him accountable. Such bullshit.

I dont want to get on a rant about this but the multiple standards (depending on the game situation) that the refs have for calling penalities is absolutely ridiculous IMO.

Yeah, it would have to be explicitly stated that Skinner will be starting Game 4 and is still trusted, but that the team is taking advantage of its depth in goal and giving him an edge over a tired Bob when he comes back. I definitely don't want Skinner losing confidence.

And don't even get me started on the refs! I spent the last week waging war against the ref apologists with the same fervor that I used to shit over Stu and management all season lol

This is just stupid. Skinner is a big reason it even went to OT. He's playing fantastic hockey.

They also don't play till Monday so your whole rest notion is nonsense

Pulling him and telling the team it's only for 1 game is the dumbest idea ever and sends a horrible message

You clearly don't know much about how this stuff works in real life
