LOL
I think Ekholm had a couple of WTF Bouchard moments that game.

That D zone pass on the 2nd Leafs goal...I mean...WTF was Bouchard thinking?!?!
The problem is, I don't think he actually WAS thinking. All his prior hockey years and training should have told his brain to take the safe play, which in this case was up the boards, and continue what he and the rest of the team had been doing all period and just needed to do for another 6 measly minutes.

Well, I'm one of the biggest Drai fans on the board and I'm never surprised by now with who the team has him playing with. its always been sloppy seconds and the dogs breakfast.

In anycase J Skinner was available and playing and hasn't looked entirely suitable in topsix. Arvid has 2 goals. Oddly enough the line looked a bit better with Podz on it although I'm not defending him being on it.

Teams can just lay off even covering Drai's wingers because they hardly ever score. This guarantees double coverage on Drai. Because why not? He's the only danger on his line.
What do you mean? McDavid has been "stuck" with absolute crap this year as well, with both Hyman and Nuge glued to him most of the time.;):D

I mean it's not a weird evaluation, it's straight up statistics. Unfortunately fans have a hard time removing themselves and their feelings from what is happening on the ice and what they remember or what stands out.

I get that it's not a popular opinion on here but statistically bouchard/ekholm have been dominant for us again this year but fans continue to complain about them.

Our goaltending has been absolutely abysmal. Easily bottom 5 in the league. It's unrealistic to think guys are going to play perfect defensively over the course of an entire game. At some point your goalie needs to make a save.

This guy gets it.
Numbers can sometimes not be the entire story. But you absolutely cannot call a pairing that constantly puts up amazing numbers bad. And if Bouchard is so bad like some think than Ekholm might be one of the top 10 defenders of all time and should have won the Norris last year in a land slide.

Bouchard being a flashy offensive player…often makes flashy mistakes.

Something my friend pointed out that I didn’t notice…with Nurse hurt, Bouchard and Ekholm saw more minutes as well. Ekholm and Bouchard played 25 minutes last night.

The first goal was a dumb error that happens sometimes with offensive d. The second goal he deserves a slap upside the head but doesn’t make him a bad player.

That’s the issue with defence though. When they do a good job you don’t notice and the MOMENT they make a mistake that’s all people judge them on.

Look at the numbers advanced and not and tell me with a straight face that Bouchard sucks.

190 d have played 140+ minutes 5v5 this year.
(All per 60 rates)
Bouchard ranks…3rd in Corsi Against
7th in Fenwick against
5th in shots against
88th in goals against
20th in xGA
13th in HDCA

So in all stats that he constantly has an effect on defensively he is top 20. Sure a lot of that could be Ekholm but if he was trash defensively, there is no way he would be that good period, no matter who his parter is. ESPECIALLY when you consider he is mostly on the ice with McDavid and Hyman who are NOT strong defensively.

The only bad stat is goals against which is a mix of his play, bad luck anddddd goaltending.

Every. Single. Stat. Points to goaltending being below average. Every one. Yet the media and shit ignore those stats unless they benefit Skinner.

This is a team that by every metric is stingy defensively. Yet we allow a lot of goals. Interesting.

Completely agree.

That play by Bouchard is the perfect illustration of what not to do when you are protecting a lead.
$8M+ defensmen just dont make that play.
You can depend on them to make the right play 99% of the time. That is not who Bouchard is.
These kinds of plays are seemingly lurking under the surface.

Thats a big reason why you cant play Bouchard with Nurse. You cant have 2 dmen on the same pairing capable of that level of brain fartery.

I just don't get why media are so afraid to call out the goaltending? Why cant Skinner handle the pressure of admitting he had a bad game, take ownership and try to be better next game.

Meanwhile Georgiev is been labeled as the sole problem in Colorado but somehow his numbers aren't any worse than Skinners.

Not just Skinner. Schwartz gets defended constantly. They bring in a goalie guy on the radio who defends them too and it’s weird. But like he only defends them on the radio and doesn’t even talk about them at all outside of it. I mean he probably rarely watches, he is a Vancouver guy.

What is skinner doing in goal when nurse is about to get head shot.

Any goalie with some awareness is yelling at nurse to get his head up

This guy is so clueless out there and couldn’t read a play if he was given the script first

Norris level defense doesn’t mean how well he was playing in his own zone by the way.

You still don’t understand what the Norris is

Maybe they’re too old and need diapers
Lmao now we are blaming Skinner for Nurse’s injury. Skinner is also responsible for inflation too.

No- that’s not what’s happening. That’s you not understanding the metrics. Lets assume you are correct- then the same metric is applied to everyone across the league and removes that assumption that only good players get good chances only against the Oilers.

Second, that second goal. If you listen to Rishaug’s podcast, he had Dubnyk on. Dubnyk, on the second goal, said Bouchard made the right play. He knew he wasnt catching McMann- so he looked around and “assessed” what happens next- take any guy following up. Dubnyk said Skinner was at fault. He was indecisive, and thus, became a pylon that McMann just skated around.

Revisiting your first part again about high danger chances- Stu’s Goals saved above expected is 42nd in the league. That takes into account the shooter, the distance, the quality of shot.
You’re taught not to pass up the middle in junior. Anyone defending that play is a moron. Dubnyk won’t throw shade on the Oilers org of course, spineless pansy.

Pretty f***ing bad on the Leafer site. They're praising Reeves for getting the team going and giving them inspiration for the win. Next game against them, bring up Brown and tell him to take out either Mitchie, Nylander or Purse-Boy, and not worry about the suspension. Promise him a nice bonus at the end of the year. If that's the way they want to play, let's do the same.

It was a gutless response. Pure bus stop material.

Its not unreasonable to think Skinner could have given an audible. . Skinner is in the best position to see the charging occurring, Nurse didn't spot it, and its expected for team mates to have your back and let you know whats happening. Teams do this lots in response to a variety of plays. Skinner is only vocal when he feels the team wasn't defending perfectly.

I don't know that anybody is blaming Skinner for it, but its interesting observation.

Tobias is absolutely blaming Skinner for the hit. Just comical stuff. Skinner also told the team to completely gas the power play.

Skinners play tells the team they need 5 to win almost any day. Nobody would listen to Skinner anyway. Except the media around here who love him. unfortunately the Oilers opponents love him as well. They love seeing him in net.

Then they should’ve tried to score on an extended power play instead of playing ice capades. They acted like they didn’t even care that Nurse was hurt.

Skinner let Reaves skate right through his crease for that hit, he was so unaware of what was going to happen

We get you dont understand hockey.

But a vocal goalie makes it much easier and safer for his D men.

Did you notice how Stolarz was constantly shouting and talking to his D last night?

I'm not blaming him for the hit, im just wondering why hes consistently so unaware of whats going on, on the ice.

You've continually shown that you understand very little about actual hockey.

Literally Skinner has worse GSAX than Georgiev at this point.

“Hey Nurse watch the play instead of the puck!!”

Like holy shit dude. Go watch the play again, Skinner is watching Nurse play with the puck. If he wasn’t watching where the puck was going he’d be blasted for being distracted or something.

Yeah, you would like to atleast hear a "heads-up" from Skinner there. Ah well.

Definitely not anyone's fault but Reaves - all her had to do was not jump through and target the head. The shoulder was right there but he deliberately avoids it.
