Bouch sucks at D, good offensive instincts but horrendous D. On the 3rd goal he stopped skating the moment the puck went past him at the opposing blue line. Considering he was to blame on the 2nd GA you think it would have inspired a better effort there.

Again. Not true. If you're gonna do a play evaluation atleast try to be honest.

Bouchard 100% skated to get back. He pumped the breaks when he saw Ekholm had the closer track.

Obviously ppl see what they want to see based on some of these responses to the play

I dunno. Booch and Ekholm had reasonable position on the breakaway that occurred. The reason it resulted in a breakaway is world class speed. Not like they weren't trying to get back, just that somebody that is fast as McD blew their doors off. It wasn't because they weren't trying. Its because Bobby McMann is a freaking rocket.

Bouchard stopped skating once McMann was already gone. The only thing he could've done there is try to haul him down and in that case would be pretty risky as probably only get a bit of McMann who would then conceivably have the breakaway and a penalty shot....

Now consider if this was a penalty shot. Would anybody be defending Skinners approach and form on the breakaway? Goalies are there to make saves. Not to let 3 scoring chances in a row all go in.

Bouchard played that right.

Skinner did not.

Bouchard wasn’t winning that race so he slowed down to assess the second line of attack and pick him up.

Friedman says reaves will get less than 5 games. Don't even think it's an in person hearing

Absolutely mind-boggling and pathetic
Yeah. This one will make news in sports around the world. Seeing the clip of Nurse severely injured, faceshield full of blood, clear broken nose, concussed. NHl has blackmarks due to this kind of thing and this severe infraction occurring right as the NHL is in its latest legal instance of denying CTE effects.

The skating speed of hockey and the equipment and ice make hits like this potentially lethal. The NHL needed to make example out of this. Reaves has extensive history. This should be 20 games minimum.

Skinner couldn't use his brain to determine the obvious play unfolding in front of him and how easy it would have been for him to just go out and play that puck.

Also Bouchard is ass sometimes.
You've missed the breakaways where Skinner tried to come out, lost the race and looked like a clown doing it? Skinner is one of the slowest skating goalies in the league. He's abysmal at every aspect of this kind of play (or lot of others) as he demonstrated once again. lol that Skinner did come out and then tried to get back and was caught. Look where he is when the goal is being scored. Thats such an easy wrap. Skinner took himself right out of the play

As others have mentioned at least Bouchard brings solid aspects of play and skill. Booch bomb, offensive play, good skating puck, walking line etc. Any team would have Bouchard. No other team except one purposely tanking would have Skinner as starter.

It may not have looked pretty but this is exactly what happened. He stopped skating cuz Ek was closer. He slowed and crossed over to clean up if something came out.

Ppl saying he just decided to quit are talkin out their a**

Yup.
Bouchard showed no sense of urgency well before it was clear that McMann was going to get to that puck.
He should have been on his horse the second he turned to skate after it.

This part it is true. He should've recognized sooner and hustled a split second before he actually did.

Very weird evaluation of a players game, whoever determined those results do not consider of the players he was playing with. No one that watched the game can conclude that Bouch's play tilted the ice in our favor. I'm very tough on Bouch and that was one of his worse efforts as an Oiler.

I mean it's not a weird evaluation, it's straight up statistics. Unfortunately fans have a hard time removing themselves and their feelings from what is happening on the ice and what they remember or what stands out.

I get that it's not a popular opinion on here but statistically bouchard/ekholm have been dominant for us again this year but fans continue to complain about them.

Our goaltending has been absolutely abysmal. Easily bottom 5 in the league. It's unrealistic to think guys are going to play perfect defensively over the course of an entire game. At some point your goalie needs to make a save.

The oilers are giving up the fewest high danger chances against in the league, yet Skinner is rocking a .877 save percentage. View attachment 931874

if you watch the video and see Ekholm after at 3;04 min mark.
looks like a "WTF?"HIGHLIGHTS | TOR 4, EDM 3 (OT) | Edmonton Oilers
Perhaps he's pondering Skinner being 20 feet out of his cage on a breakaway, in no goalie land, and this resulting in the breakaway being the easiest walk around possible and McMann essentially having an empty net to put it in. The only thing that could have saved Skinner on that is if McMann somehow lost control of the puck or overskated it. Don't think the bench were too impressed either. Or as demonstrated that hardly anybody went back to Skinner postgame. We can only hope Skinners days are numbered here as starter.

In all the zeal to pin this play on Bouchard why not look at how shitty Skinner played this. Its like he's not even there. McMann wouldn't have had an easier time if we'd pulled the goalie..

Guarantee the convo in opponents rooms has more to do with what a clown we have in net as a starter than Bouchard as a player. The Leafs would have Booch in their lineup in an instant.

Yeah. Its a a basic look at attribution. Not hard to recognize Skinner is the problem, and not a starring D who put up over PPG just last season. One is useful.

Don't feel better about Skinner man after a sleep.

Shame on Chris Cuthbert. (I think it was him)

"Draisaitl is on a 4th line shift with Podkolzin and Perry, he's getting an extra shift with the 4th line" He said this in first period. Nobody corrected him.

Like seriously tell us you don't even know what line Drai is on, who is linemates are or anything. How absolutely embarrassing to make such an uninformed remark on HNIC national broadcast between the Oilers and Leafs.

These commentators have one job, to be even the least bit credible and informed. They couldn't even tell you the Oilers lines. Anybody that attends this board knows better.
One might forgive him for thinking there’s no way those are the two guys we have playign with Drai on the second line given all the work done this year to sign him suitable linemates.

And GMs often trust their scouts and coaches. Unfortunately we have a guy that people trust constantly for zero good reason and it only hurts the team.
If they were that incompetent though then Holland should have recognized that and fired them.
This completely falls at Hollands feet.
He was the man. That was HIS team.

Well, I'm one of the biggest Drai fans on the board and I'm never surprised by now with who the team has him playing with. its always been sloppy seconds and the dogs breakfast.

In anycase J Skinner was available and playing and hasn't looked entirely suitable in topsix. Arvid has 2 goals. Oddly enough the line looked a bit better with Podz on it although I'm not defending him being on it.

Teams can just lay off even covering Drai's wingers because they hardly ever score. This guarantees double coverage on Drai. Because why not? He's the only danger on his line.

Its hilarious that Cuthbert thought it was the 4th line Drai was playing on but also hilarious a paid broadcaster on National network on HNIC doesn't even know. I mean Drai isn't some punter you don't know anything about, he's the leading scorer in the league. It would be like not knowing who Mark Messier was playing with.
