Not saying he played well defensively but all 5 goals came after Werenski's injury and with him on the ice. There is shared blame there.Ok but the Werenski injury happened at the end of the game. Severson was making soft defensive plays all game. Evason is in a tough spot because who do you play with Fabbro out? JJ? Christiansen probably deserved more time as he was doing well.
Dean now has some more option, Fabbro is back and Mateychuk is up who looks solid defensively through 1 game. Let's see how that plays out.
I agree Z did not have a good game but he has played so well this year it's hard to really fault him that much for one game. Severson has been making soft defensive zone plays all year, hence my harsh criticism. Not saying he played well defensively but all 5 goals came after Werenski's injury and with him on the ice. This is a very accurate representation. His skill set is one that seems to be a "get him the puck to shoot" skillset, however, his mindset is "I can do it all and all by myself", which results in bad turnovers and inconsistent play. This hasn't changed because of his comments. This is something it doesn't appear coaches have the ability to flip the narrative. He has a chance to be a great complimentary player, but he wants to be THE player and with that comes challenges for a team structure. Play the PP, score goals and be part of a team, not an individual that thinks he's helping the team, when in actuality you're playing against a system. For us he didn’t just go to his spot and just fire shots like you would want. He would try to do too much with the puck. About every hundred attempts he would get some speed going and deke a couple of guys and have a highlight reel play. But mostly he would turn the puck over. He decided he wanted to be a center for some reason. He’d pass instead of shoot. You would be screaming at the tv - just freakin’ pick a spot and shoot. And then he would skate with his head down and get injured. Most surprisingly, our power play wasn’t that good with him. He wasn’t the Patrik Laine we thought we were getting.
Attacking Severson, and not Werenski, after all those goals shows nothing but a clear bias against Severson. Werenski could barely move when he came back and was at the very least as equally responsible for the goals against. Not saying he played well defensively but all 5 goals came after Werenski's injury and with him on the ice. I'm with you. Severson poops down his leg in horrible spots, but he's honestly a pretty good player a lot of the time. I think him and Provorov both are pretty underappreciated defensemen. The biggest issue is neither of them seem to be able to find any chemistry with anybody. Provorov looked great on the offside with Z, but Fabbro fits him like a glove.Attacking Severson, and not Werenski, after all those goals shows nothing but a clear bias against Severson. The Severson hate is ignorant, IMO.
The idea that Provorov plays a more aggressive or physical game than Severson, or that he’s better defensively, is even more ignorant.
On the flip side. It is interesting the Habs played better as a team after Laine left the bench. It's a shame they lost focus after Laine quit but that 1st period could be a real talking point for Evason moving forward. This team is capable of being more of a pain to play against and how they responded to Laine is pretty positive

Based off his performance in Philly, he most definitely deserved a wake up call. Almost every goal Philly scored was due to some soft play Severson made in the defensive zone.
Straight up rewatch the tape.Straight up not true.
Straight up rewatch the tape.
There's a reason he was healthy scratched. You can live in denial that Severson is somehow better defensively than he actually is or you can watch how the coach treated him after that "performance."
This is a good synopsis of his night imo.I'm talking about those specific goals. Two of which he wasn't even on the ice for.
I'm not saying he's good defensively or doesn't deserve to be scratched. If Evason thinks he can get more out of him by sending this message then I'm all aboard.
This is a good synopsis of his night imo.
Okay? Does almost now mean all? When I flatly disagree with something you said, you can assume I'm being very literal. I'm not making some broader comment. This is not an argument about whether Severson is a good defender.
You blamed him for, in your words, "almost every goal Philly scored". And your support is a tweet implicating him in two of them, and giving him a pass on one. And he wasn't on the ice for the two others.
Okay? Does almost now mean all?
Considering he got off the hook on a couple other potential ones, let me say its embarassing anyone is defending him after that game. (Not saying you necessarily are)
