Pre-Game Talk: Week of We Talkin' 'Bout Practice, Man...

we shouldn't be surprised or alarmed

Totally unreasonable

Colton is a guy who steps up in the playoffs. He absolutely should not be sitting.

Kelly/Kivi for sure should the 12 and 13 guy. I lean Kivi because of the "Former team" aspect against Dallas at least.

But it's very, very nice to be even in the position of sitting one of them. That's some real great depth.

Nevermind the fact you then have Vesey and Wood behind that.

We could have 3 forward injuries and still ice an entire lineup of legitimate NHL caliber players.

On top of what was mentioned, I’d got with Kivi because he has some scoring touch. I like what Kelly brings but he misses the net a lot.

I still wouldn’t be surprised if JB plays musical chairs with that bottom 6 winger position, Landeskog, Kiviranta and Kelly.

Both Kivi and Kelly are pretty even so it is hard to predict what Bednar will do. Kivi is better at faceoffs so he might prefer him in the lineup to give himself a 2nd guy to go with considering Drury gets thrown out quite often.

Based on this season alone I'd probably keep Kivi in just cause he's on a shooting bender and is more of a goal threat.

Why does everyone mention the stars depth like the Avs don’t have any?
That’s just human nature. When you keep repeating something over and over again, it tends to stick in your brain and becomes an automatic. For few years now people have been talking about how deep the Stars forward group is and stuff. The only way to shut them up is to beat them in this playoffs

Not really to end the season though. Kivi is one of the streakiest players in the NHL.

He went the first 5 games of the season without a goal or point. Then scored 4 goals in 3 games. Then went 17 games without a goal. Then scored 1 but combined with the previous streak only had that 1 goal in 25 games.

Then had 5 goals in 3 games which included a hat trick. Then after the hat trick went 16 games without a goal and just 1 in 26 games. Then had goals in 4 games in a row. Then had 1 goal and 2 points in his final 13 games.

He does have a penchant for big goals in the playoffs though. And he plays well against Dallas. That may help him.

Goals shouldn't be the expectation from the 4th line though. That's just a bonus. Grit and hard puck hounding to create momentum is their biggest contribution. Kelly is better in this area for that line IMO.

Tbf the Dallas forward group is crazy deep. And going into this season the Avs were not deep at all. But got to give Cmac credit for giving this team a overhaul throughout the season.

That's fair. I mean it's a great decision to have to make between them either way imo. Both are great options to have on the 4th line.

Imo, the Avs F depth is crazy good now. I’m not going to rank them subordinate to the Stars Fs. Let’s discuss their D and ours.

They are deep, and the point I was making is that we’ll keep hearing how much deeper they are than us until we beat them in the playoffs
