Oh I sure as f*** blame him. Despite Mittelstadt playing decently well last season and to start this season, it should have been PAINFULLY obvious to CMac that someone who is as poor a skater as Mittelstadt would be a horrific fit for this team.

Finding top 6 centers is hard. Really, really hard.

There are more top 6 C spots available than actual players that can do the job. Just like 1G and 1RD.

When JT Miller was available it was possibly our only chance to get a real good top 6 C this year.

But why did the skating suddenly become an issue in the last 30 or 40 games and wasn’t an issue before?

I don't doubt that. CMac just happened to target the wrong guy. Even as much as I despise Cozens I would have taken him over Mittelstadt.

Who knows. I mean, Mitts wasn't perfect to end last season and a lot of his production early this season came on the PP. It's just gotten to the lowest of possible lows now.

Btw, you can get by with a poor skater in the 2C role IF that guy does other things well. Wins battles, is physical, dominates down low, goes to the net, good defensively, etc.

Mitts is none of those things.

Cousins is struggling himself. It's likely we're in the same situation.

Hindsight IMO, Kadri and Horvat are the misses. Trocheck may be another, but it was looking like he was on the decline.

I think his first interview sealed it for me… missing all his buds in buffalo and acting all dejected. I was so mad
