Pre-Game Talk: Week of No Mercy for Mercenary Moose (Mon vs. CHI, Tues @ MIN, Fri @ CGY, Sun vs. DAL)

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.

How many points will we get this week?

Despite the lack of practice time, now would be a good time to finally put together a good 2nd unit power play. The depth is there now, so use it.

I hate that it’s five lefties.

So easy as a goaltender because I immediately know there’s no one-time threat on the entire left side.

Current PP2:

Colton
Girard - Lehkonen - Drouin
Toews

I would honestly have Malinski take Girard’s spot so there is one freakin’ righty to keep the PK unit honest.

Valid point, or even just do the crazy 3-D thing like he did in years past.

You'd think Bednar, given his insistence on using Compher as the triggerman in the slot on the top unit, that he'd want a righty in there somewhere. Just shows that he really hasn't put much effort or focus on a viable 2nd unit.

Coyle should be there instead of Colton too IMO.

Oof... Not that I disagree with you one bit, but it's startling how little use Ross is providing at times.

Always thought he would grow into that 3C role, but I have a feeling he's the new whipping boy... and at 4M, I can at least understand it. But if Ross Colton is our biggest issue up front, I'd say CMac has done his job once again.

I also think despite his low point totals, Malinski thinks the game in the offensive zone better than Girard. That, and he has an incredible ability to get his shots through. One of the more underrated things he does, he is tremendous at changing angles and getting pucks there.

I haven’t had time to listen. Does anyone have a summary of Landeskog’s S.C. interview? Did he say anything noteworthy?

He said he doesn't ever expect ro be pain free and that he knows he will likely never be at the same level again and that at this point he just want to see it through.

Who would have thought Kiviranta would have 15 goals this year? Glad he is being rewarded a bit. 21pts in 66 games is not bad for 775K
He's got to pot at least one more. He can NOT be out done by Cody McLeod. Although Cody was on a one year $522,500 deal. He also used his face as a catcher's mitt to pump up the crowd.

He said he’s in a good place right now, feeling good, expects to play again, and my favorite part was when he said he feels bad for the poor opposing d-man that’s gonna get in his way his first game back

Must be fun being LAK. 4th year in a row facing Edmonton. Rivalries are nice, but this setup can also get a bit stale if you just face the same team over and over again.
More than anything, this drives home how badly I want to see us implement the gold standard plan for the draft. Seattle and Nashville having lost out on the playoffs would be banking points towards better odds at the overall #1 draft pick. The coupled with proud players innate tendencies to want to be spoilers (if I can't have fun, I want to at least make someone else as miserable as I am!) would make their stretch runs fun for fans.

Could you imagine the final game of the season determing who gets the overall #1 draft pick. A team that is missing the playoffs will be selling out the final game of the season big time!!
