Pre-Game Talk: Week of Home Cookin' (Tue vs. DET, Thu vs. LAK, Sat vs. STL)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The Colorado Avalanche sit 5th in the NHL right now; 3 of the top 5 teams in the league are from the Central division. 10-1-1 record in our last 12 games. We head home for a 4 game stint with 3 games this week. We've won 9 in a row at home, the last loss coming over two months ago on January 22nd against Winnipeg in overtime.

The team is firing on (almost)all cylinders right now, getting significant depth scoring throughout the lineup and outplaying teams by a wide margin. Still some lapses of concentration to correct to play a full 60 minutes. Nathan MacKinnon is in a bit of a funk right now as well, but we know that won't last.

In terms of health, we are missing Sam Girard and Josh Manson. Girard is day-to-day with a lower body injury. Manson is week-to-week with an upper body injury. Gabriel Landeskog remains on LTIR, but is now skating regularly with the team, having participated in the last 3 practices.

Three hungry teams come to Ball Arena this week. The Red Wings and Blues fighting for their playoff lives; Detroit quickly falling down the Eastern Wild Card race and the Blues are currently holding down the last Western Wild Card spot. The Kings are hot on the heels of the Oilers, looking to grasp home ice advantage.

Schedule:

Tuesday, March 25 vs. Detroit Red Wings - 7:00 PM MDT
Thursday, March 27 vs. Los Angeles Kings - 8:00 PM MDT
Saturday, March 29 vs. St. Louis Blues - 2:30 PM MDT

MacKinnon remains atop the Art Ross race. Although he's been a bit cold(3 points in his last 6 games), he's benefited from Leon Draisaitl being injured and missing a few games. Cale Makar finds himself 10th in the league with 81 points; 12 points ahead of the next closest defenseman in Zach Werenski at 69.

If the Avs jump out to a 3-0 series lead is it worth sticking Miles of Wood as the 1st line winger and play him a bunch in hopes he might accidentally score a goal en route to a cup win and then a stupid team like Buffalo will trade for him for his Cup leadership?

After last night’s game, Wood and Vesey have to be the 13th and 14th forwards. Vesey was invisible and Wood was a train wreck as usual. Wood has never been that great but he’s been downright awful since the back issues

Yeah, keep that bare-footed buffoon out of the lineup for the rest of the season. He adds nothing but extra PK minutes for our PKers

Not sure what other hope we can have at offloading that contract. So it seems as good as any other idea to try.
