He ain’t wrong

I've generally thought McDavid is the best player in the league and lean towards forwards in that regard, because they contribute more on offense, and goals are kinda what wins games.

But I'm genuinely starting to think Cale migth be better than McDavid as the best player in the NHL. Especially if McDavid doesn't get back to that insane production he had.

Cale just does so many things aside from contribute a ton of offense, that McDavid doesn't do.

And not just that, he does them every game. And not just that, he doest them all almost every shift. Dominates offensively, while working his ass off and playing well defensively, and with a physical edge, and as much competitive fire as anyone in history who's played the game. The total package is just incredible.

I said in Cale's rookie year I thought he could get 30 goals 100 points one day. I almost never make predictions on young players, and that seemed lofty at the time, but I believed it. He's on pace for 31 goals and 94 point this year.

The scary thing is, I think Cale's got a career year where everything goes perfect, and he stays healthy all year, where he gets to another level than even what he's shown so far.

If he can work on his his shot so he doesn't shoot so many pucks over the net, or off the post, and becomes another Ray Bourque accuracy specialist, I think I'll update my prediction to 40 goals and 110 points in a career year. Sounds crazy I know, but Cale is just special. He can do it.

You can argue that right now McDavid is 4th or 5th best player

Mack/Cale or Cale/MacK one and two then
Draisaitl
Kucherov
McDavid

Yes I’ll even put Kucherov ahead of McDavid right now

I feel like it's most likely an off year for McDavid, and he may be conserving energy for the playoffs, after a lengthy run last year, but if things stay about where they are, then I would agree completely.

As incredible as Nate is, I think I put Cale ahead of him for the reasons I mentioned in comparison to McDavid.

Another cool thing about Cale is that he's literally always the play caller on the ice before facoeffs. I never see him just listen and defer to someone else. Nate's the guy that just listens and nods at him too.

Cale's just the ultimate hockey player in every sense. He could win the Hart, Norris, Conn Smythe, and Jack Adams all at the same time.

Whenever Lando is done, Cale needs to be the next C

I feel like it's a forgone conclusion.

Nate would deserve it too, but he's intentionally skipped about 30 first star circles out on the ice after the game in his career, and every press scrum he looks like he's on the verge of calling a reporter a f***ing idiot.

I feel like he won't want all the attention and media duties that come with being the Captain. He just wants to focus on playing hockey as best as he can.

Yeah, Connor had good playoffs last year, obviously winning the Conn Smythe( although not able to close it out and win the cup) but as far as the regular season goes, he hasn’t been the best last year and this year.

Playing defence at the level Makar is at requires a lot more talent than McDavid playing as a #1 centre. Makar not only has to know when to use his offensive skills so he doesn't cost his team goals, he also needs to play superb defence to win games. McDavid barely backcheques as a #1 centre.

I'm guessing this is Cooper too.

Guy probably rings up reporters on his off days and records his calls just so he can hear himself talk.
I've always pictured him as going home after a game and writing up a very detailed report explaining all the ways the NHL screwed his team during the game.

He'll probably point out how many times he's had to challenge the refs and get their calls overturned as a reason to expand video review.

The guy wants to play hockey in a court room, not on a sheet of ice.

Connor McDavid is so good that in a year where he's pacing 117 points people are questioning if other players are better than him.

Look, I love Cale Makar and I love Nathan MacKinnon. I believe wholeheartedly they are top-five players in the world and for my money Cale is firmly entrenched in that #2 position.

But Connor McDavid is the best player since Mario Lemieux. What other player in the league has a DOWN year pacing 117 points?

This year, Nate, Drai and Kucherov have been better. They’re all at 120+ point pace. Even the Oilers fans would say that Draisaitl has been better this year.

I’m not saying those players are all better than McDavid as far as career goes, but this year they are

They're having better seasons, that's indisputable. McDavid has clearly been off this season.

I don't think it changes the debate of best player, though.

That’s true it doesn’t, but I’d take Nate and Cale on my team. Call me homer if you want. I won’t deny that career wise, McDavid is the best offensive talent in the NHL, but Nate and Cale are winners, and they are on par offensively with McDavid. Makar maybe scoring 30 goals this year

D is the most important position as well. Half of the forwards can hardly skate backwards well enough
