Pre-Game Talk: Week of Home Cookin' (Tue vs. DET, Thu vs. LAK, Sat vs. STL)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Surprised Girard is back so soon. I thought he would be another day to day case where he misses at least a month

G was taking it very easy in practice yesterday. Feels like a mistake rushing him back. I guess the team really wants to catch Dallas, if he's going to be playing injured.

Honestly, the Avs aren't catching Dallas and I don't think the Wild are catching the Avs.

Any forward who needs rest, get Vesey and the Donkey into the lineup and rest guys. Whether that's Lehkonen, Drouin, Drury from all the shots he's blocked lately, Coyle, whoever needs it.

Go in as fresh as possible. Throw Vesey and Wood to the wolves as sacrifices.

Come to think of it, Dallas still shockingly has an outside chance at catching Winnipeg for 1st. 6 points back with a game in hand and a game against Winnipeg remaining.

I agree after the Wild lost to Dallas I agree I think any hope we catch them went out the window. I think I would rather play the Jets than the Stars so maybe time to start rooting for Dallas to overtake them as the best option.

I don't think Dallas wants the Avs, either. Especially if Heiskanen is questionable for the 1st round. They for sure want to try catching Winnipeg and playing one of St. Louis/Vancouver/Calgary in the 1st round instead of Colorado.

I keep forgetting Heiskanen is out. Maybe we do want to face them in the first if we are going to have to play them at some point then.

Another idiot question if I may... at @2:50, Bednar mentioned we talked about our segment seven... and then spoke about improving on the defensive side of things. What exactly is segment seven? I'm assuming it has something to do with strategy for a best of 7 tournament, but am not really sure.

Segment seven is basically 3 on 3 inside of one zone.

You remove the defending wingers and opposition D and have a mini game of 3 v 3. It forces the 3 players to tightly mark their opponent as they can’t rely on a winger coming low to help them, which you generally don’t want because it then leaves a point open.

This makes the defending 3 focus on their gap control and their communication defending 3 opposing forwards.

3 forwards v 1 forward + 2 defensemen inside of one zone with a goalie.

Segment seven.

Again... many thanks.

Is there any such thing as a Hockey for Dummies book? Or some good read that discusses tactics? It's funny.... been watching hockey since the early 90s and this is the first time I heard the expression. Reminds me that even though I've tried to learn something new every day, I'm still pretty much a f***ing idiot.

I dunno man, most of this stuff comes from playing and coaching.

Another reason to hate growing up in Texas in the 70s/80s. Never had the damn chance to play hockey. Now there's apparently a rink opposite the gas station, church and liquor store at every intersection.
