This is… surprising, no?

Seems wrong to me. Don't get me wrong, I've got MAD respect for LOC. But his work from the wing this year has been like nowhere close to what Nuke has done in the past and he's barely gotten any recognition for Selke.

It's been so long now, I can't even remember for sure the player or the award but ESPN had one of our guys up for something they weren't qualified for as a fan vote in. I think it was Vrbata for Hart. The dudes, just made a mistake. Kinda like offering Finger a 4x3.5M thinking he was Sauer.

Why I hate analytics

I love LOC but he’s been bad this year
Absolutely agree - he's not the same as he was prior to the injury.

Just goes to show how much hockey these idiots watch who come up with stuff like this : zero.

O'Connor is a massive part of the PK, and believe it or not the Avs per/60 rank:

3rd in Scoring Chances Against
11th in High Danger Chances Against
30th in Save Percentage

The Avs PK should statistically be a lot better than it is but goaltending has been a huge downfall.

Combine that with his defensive zone starts and the fact that while he hardly produces a 5v5 he also isn't on the ice for much against suggests analytically he is Selke worthy.

We know much, much better watching him not be himself nightly, but the numbers paint a rosy picture of LOC.
