I beg you don't take the under, mother_______.

We are into Week 8 now, and just like last week, we are actually already in it, but I didn't have the capacity or creative vision yet to do this prior to MTSU beating Kennesaw State 14-5 on Tuesday. Not even tonight's BC/Virginia Tech game. That's fine, we're loaded again this week with a Top 25 matchup, Top 11 matchup, and a Top 5 matchup

We're back to serious things on Friday though. Starting at 7pm on ESPN 2, Florida State will, again, look for their second win of the season by making a trip to 5-1 Duke. Duke's loss to Georgia Tech two weeks ago cost them a spot in the AP poll. Now they are favored by only 3 for some reason.

#2 Oregon has a long trip on a short week after their massive win, one which coerced the NCAA to 'clarify' a rule that Dan Lanning took advantage of when he put 12 men on the field on the 3rd & 25 play at end of last week's game against Ohio State - trading 5 yards for 4 seconds - and landing the Ducks a win. Now, the offense will be given the option to put the time back on the clock, which Will Howard seemed to think he had already given how he ran that last play. At any rate, Oregon is at Purdue, and the line is 28.5, so the books aren't expecting a let down.

Friday After Dark on ESPN has #13 BYU hosting Oklahoma State - losers of 3 in a row, and Fresno State at Nevada on CBSSN.

The Noon window very much reads as a prelim undercard. Indiana has only played 1 game since being ranked two weeks ago, but they're already up to #16 and have the Big Noon Kickoff crew coming to Bloomington. They're 6-0 for the second time in school history, and have been bowl eligible for two weeks. They've got a sellout crowd for their tilt with 5-1 Nebraska, who toughed out a 14-7 win vs. Rutgers last week. IU -6.5

#6 Miami also had the week off after their huge comeback win out at Cal, they're making a much shorter trip to Louisville. The Cardinals are 4-2, but have lost to the two best teams they've played, and this one is better, Miami -5.

Shout out to #23 Army, ranked and 5-0 in their first year in the American. They welcome East Carolina to West Point, who they're 0-8 against all time. Army has rushed for 369.8 yards per game, and have boatraced all of their AAC opponents, having yet to trail at all this season. Now they get a home game on ESPN2, and their game against Notre Dame in November is now a prime time game. Army -16

The mid or late afternoon slot has a great lineup. But first, shout out to #25 Navy as well. This is the first week since like 1962 or something that both Army and Navy are ranked, and back then they weren't ranking teams to 25. They're favored to Charlotte, on CBSSN, but could be looking ahead to their trip to MetLife Stadium next week, as they host Notre Dame. Navy -16.

It's the Third Saturday in October, so a huge game going on up at Rocky Top, two teams who have had to work to stop their seasons from going off the rails entirely. Both teams had to escape last week, #7 Alabama had to shake off a late run by South Carolina, while #11 Tennessee went to overtime against an underacheiving Florida squad, struggling on offense once again. The loser of this game faces the possibility of being way outside the Expanded College Football Playoff picture and being 5th in line in the SEC. Last time these two met in Knoxville, the Vols scored the most points they've ever had in the rivalry in a 52-49 win, which was their first win in the series since 2005. However, Alabama answered last year, and they're 3-point road favorites here. This is the SEC on ABC feature.

Over on CBS, another ranked matchup, but with fewer stakes in all likelihood. #22 Illinois needed every last point of the 50 they scored to put away Purdue last week, as their vaunted defense was asleep against a team who hadn't even given scored that many points against all FBS teams combined. They welcome the defending national champions, #24 Michigan, in the first ranked matchup in Champaign since 2000. An Illinois win would be their first home win against a ranked team while being ranked since 1991. I thought the Rose Bowl team with Juice Williams was better than that. Michigan is going to their third QB of the season, seventh-year guy Jack Tuttle replaces Alex Orji. Bret Bielma has appealed to the Illini faithful to have their sellout crowd make it loud.

On ESPN, #12 Notre Dame has a trip down south to Georgia Tech. GT is 5-2, while ND still only has the home loss to Northern Illinois as their lone blemish. ND -9.5

Fox has, who may be the Heisman front runner in Travis Hunter, Coach Prime takes the Buffaloes of Colorado south to play Arizona. Close loss for Colorado last week to K-State, while their receiver depth took a beating, but got good TV ratings, so ESPN went ahead and made their game against Cincinnati next week After Dark, too. Travis Hunter and and Jimmy Horn, Jr., both look to be in. Arizona -2.5.

God bless realignment. Let's get at it in prime time, and we know where the bright lights will be shining. GameDay is in Austin, for another huge SEC prime time Top 5 matchup. #1 Texas is in the driver's seat in the SEC, they are the only remaining undefeated team in the conference after dispatching their blood rivals from Oklahoma back up the Red River. The imposing challenge awaits from #5 Georgia, who might be desperate given their upcoming schedule. They're not even the top remaining 1-loss team, though a win this week definitely will put them back in there. Georgia have had some slow starts, and then gave up 31 to a pitiful Mississippi State team last week. This is the first top 5 matchup since the 2006 Game of the Century between Texas and Ohio State. This could also go a long way to determining not only a Heisman front runner, but the first QB taken in the NFL draft - Carson Beck vs, Quinn Ewers, especially for Beck, if they can crack the nation's top total and scoring defense. Last time these two teams met, was in the 2019 Sugar Bowl, where Bevo and Uga got into a ruckus. Texas -5.

That's not the only big prime time game in the SEC, #8 LSU travels to Arkansas, 5-1 vs. 4-2, LSU should be treading carefully against their rival to the north, Arkansas already has one top 10 upset this year, and only one of their losses are is the conference. ESPN lists them in 5th place in the SEC, and a win here could get them up into 3rd place if Georgia loses.

The Big 12 doesn't necessarily have the cool kids, but #9 Iowa State is 6-0 and the top ranked team in the conference, and projects them to having a bye in the Expanded College Football Playoff. They'll be well aware if they need to keep pace ahead of BYU - those two teams do not play as scheduled. The Cyclones host UCF on FS1. ISU -13.5.

Also in the Big 12, Fox opted to take #17 Kansas State at West Virginia, perhaps expecting a closer game, with K-State as a 2.5-point road favorite in a hostile crowd in Morgantown.

Out west, on ACC Network, conference debutantes take to the field out on the farm. Stanford hosts #21 SMU, who are under the radar at 5-1.

After Dark gives us the Beavs on the CW, Oregon State hosts UNLV, as G5 jockeying continues. UNLV has a big one next week vs. Boise State. TCU is also at Utah on ESPN.

Didn't peg GKJ as a pop fan
It's complicated. As we get near the end of the year, I have to decide what my best music of the year is, and I haven't been able to deny Sabrina making it into my playlists. You can get in there as a pop artist, the talent has to be so far beyond undeniable. She is just a different level of writer and lyricist compared to the genre. Over the years, I've more than have had time for Robyn, but she's been more independent, which coincided with her discovering synths. Kylie Minogue, hasn't always been on the radar, but I never ran from her - great comeback last year. There's others back in the 80's. Sabrina has a place among them. And she's from Philly. Well, close enough.

Virginia Tech might be showing signs of life. Boston College has been good this year.

very disturbed reading this. All the SEC tripleheaders are disturbing

ABC gasp...used to air games from all over the country

perhaps methinks this is a result of the conferences consolidating into 2 superpowers. But yeah ABC used to air ACC games, Florida St vs Clemson and all that jazz

Almost like it’s on purpose.
