Makes sense. Can decide if he’s progressed enough to not bring in a highly experienced backup next season in Brissett again or whether they can trust Milton to come in for 2-3 games if needed.
Lions recently signed Bridgewater vs run with Hooker as the backup in the PO.

Is his job really secure? Even if it was he’d have to make changes to his coaching staff. So those guys did their best with the guys to try to get a job next season. What’s good for the team isn’t going to be what’s good for some of the coaches and close to half the players.

That's more than just this game, but also the idea of calling zero designed runs for him all year and encouraging him not to scramble at all.

I know they want to try to develop his pocket presence, but completely removing one of his weapons seems a short sighted way to do it. Sure you don't want to go all A Rich and just have him being an RB playing QB, but it makes a lot of sense to have him work on his reading of rushes and knowing when to slide early in his career before he gets too settled in without that.

Maye took 2 big hits this season running. First vs the jets was more of a fluke as he was tripped up but stumbled into a hit trying to regain his balance vs being able to make the decision to slide. But the second hit, did not need to take. Too far behind the line of the gain on 3rd and 4 to get the first and too many defenders in front. Should have slid on the play.

Fine with him reining if needed when the play breaks down. Up to HC and OC to decide if they wish to design runs for him. But they need to make sure he knows to not put his body at risk on those runs.

Remember that there are dozens of coaches and players who are not likely to return to a 3 win team. Tanking does nothing for them in terms of getting a job in 2025.

Right but you don't learn how plays are developing with you as a runner unless you actually run. Not having him run just delays that learning.
