That happens all the time though. When the defense blows up a screen pass and the QB just chucks it at their feet.

Anything behind the LOS, need to get it somewhat close to the eligible receiver. Brady was the master of that, if a play was blown up by the DL, he'd toss the ball 2-3 yards in front of the RB. Live to play another down. Didn't force it for a negative play.

I know the rule is that all they look at is was there a receiver in the area. They should also have to decide whether there was any attempt to complete the pass.

One of those games was the highest scoring game in NFL history, WFT beating the Giants 72-41. They lost the next game at Cleveland as well, 49-40. Both games are scorigami. Giants were 1-12-1 that year, having beaten the same WFT team 13-10
