If you saw the way his contract was structured when he signed it this was the obvious off-season it was going to be reworked. He’s down to like the 13th or 14th highest paid QB in the league which they were always going to fix if he maintained his trajectory. Next year his cap hit balloons to a massive one…to the point where redoing the contract to pay him more will actually bring the immediate hit down.

I’m not as familiar with Mahomes deal, who also sits like 12 or 13 highest paid but I believe his cap balloon inflates next year too. Probably spring and summer of two agents seeing what the other is up to while trying to negotiate. Mahomes, Allen and Lamar should be the highest paid guys in a vacuum but these always come down to next man up gets the bag. Lamar is the seventh highest paid and his contract actually expires the earliest of the three…but I don’t believe it’s in a place where reworking his deal already helps their cap as much. But it will mean he will get his next deal after the market is reset again. Which is a good place to be.
