It goes back to when he was coaching under Urban. Gene Smith the AD at the time pretty much ran him out because he’s a massive hardass and is incredibly intense as a person. Once he got the opportunity to coach in the NFL he jumped at the bit. He hasn’t been back to the Woody or Shoe since then.

I used to be like that. But I had to take step back when I realized that I didn’t want to live vicariously through the team. Had that epiphany when I was like 25/26.
