I decided to not accept the offer and went to college and played hockey. It's a tough life. Even the on-the-road scouts have it tough. Sure, they get paid to watch football games. But it's up early traveling, checking backgrounds, watching practices, etc from July to January. Then they are at the Senior Bowl, Combine, and working to prepare draft boards. And as soon as the draft is over, they are off to spring practices. They get some downtime between the spring practices and the start of summer football camps for colleges. But they have meetings in July to set the prospect lists, etc.

Lots of traveling, lots of hotels. It's a grind.
Yeah, you’d have to love it. Kind of like working at PF Chang’s, if you’re not into lettuce wraps it probably wouldn’t be for you.

This LA game will be our first true test more than Detroit, after the division win.

cocky , focused , many young kids in LA etc coming off a win , our win , that refocused LA on winning the division or being out .

if they lose to us they play the 49ers in 4 days and could be out behind cards and Seattle

It's a real thing. When I interned in the Bills scouting department, I was offered to come on as a paid scout. But the hours of the paid scouts who worked in the building were 5am to 8pm, and they all lived in a small apartment. Two in bunk beds in one room, two in beds in another, and the 5th on a pull-out couch. They had pizza every night for dinner. And they rarely had a day off, working almost every weekend and some holidays.

We see the top people (head coach, GM, coordinators, etc) and think that life is grand. But there's an army of scouts and coaches behind them. The Bills had five younger scouts in their at-home scouting department in 1994-95 who did nothing but prepare the sent in reports, adjust boards, review compatibility rankings, run mock drafts, compile prospect mean-median-range stats, etc. Those guys were looking at a decade of grinding before the Bills would put them on the road as scout.

Coaching was not much different. Same type of hours and same type of grind.
Hyde being a known players might have an easier path to coaching than others who would bypass steps in path to coaching

How many of the Bill's scouts were based err elsewhere outside of buffalo? Somr scouts just work a few states in the SE thus they are based at a central poin zdx?

There were about 12-15 traveling scouts plus the national scout. The did have areas, but most lived in Buffalo as their home.

It's not the path to coaching that would be an issue. It is the 80+ hour work weeks and the grind that might not be attractive to Hyde if he is really enjoying his retirement so far.

I could see him being a media personality more than a coach because the lifestyle is so much better.

Something that hasn't been mentioned enough is the Bills record since Brady took over. They're 17-4 (playoffs included) since he took over for Dorsey and also is a big reason why Allen has matured over the past year. Please, football gods, give us another year with this man.
Given how his time in Carolina went and how things are going for Daboll in NY, I won't be shocked if Brady is patient and waits for a really good job offer like Ben Johnson has.

S Deon Cain released from the practice squad yesterday. So there is something coming there, SalC just said he's not so sure it will be Hyde signing though and they have a bunch of players about to come back from health issues, other roster moves, so could simply be making room for Virgil or Grable for ie, etc.

My guess is that it is for Virgil with Carter likely coming off of IR this week.

But, we shall see.

The quality depth they have in a year with over $65M in dead cap is a testament to the job Beane, McD, and their staffs have done over the past 8 years.
I'd love for Brady to try to get both Kincaid and Knox involved together. Dorsey gave a lot of lip service to 12 personnel but never made it work.

Hyde would be a great addition. It'd also be awesome to win a ring with him on the roster. Always loved the way he played and his attitude here.
I'd love Hyde to be added to the PS. But.....I think that's where his influence will be best: on the practice squad as a veteran voice.

If we are forced to play Hyde.....I would be deeply, deeply concerned.

McD deserves so much respect for what he's done with this franchise. The Bills were pretty much where the Sabres are now when he took over. Completely transforming the culture and squeezing every bit of fight out of these players is what allowed them to 'luckily' make the playoffs in 2017. I can see Buffalo being similar to Pitt or Baltimore after Allen retires. A well run organization that has a good coach, and will likely never bottom out as long as McD and Beane are at the helm.

Credit to Beane, too, all he ever did was try to wisely improve the team. Remember how we ended up with Allen? Trading Glenn and a our 1st to move up for a polarizing young QB. Giving said young QB an elite WR to help his development. Strong drafting allowing for our 'retool' year to go as smoothly as possible. He should win GM of the year this year. He's made so many 'experts' eat crow.

We're lucky to have both of these guys, and as Buffalo fans, Im sure most of us recognize how lucky we are.

I figured he'd be a depth piece, but the PS is probably best for him with his neck injuries + the fact he hasn't played ball in damn near a year.

There's a way around that. You run 11 plays out of 12 formation with Kincaid as the slot. Then just tighten the slot up. It mostly helps play calling so you're not asking your slot to make key blocks.

KC does that with Kelce and Gray.
The time on task to develop chemistry between Mahomes and Kelce allows them to do stuff that Allen and Kincaid just can't yet.

And if you are basically playing it like 11 personnel, then it isn't making 12 effective.

Yes and no.

Kincaid is no inline blocking tight end but if you're asking him to make the blocks the slot receiver is making, then he's fine.

Also, Kincaid against a straight 4-3 or 3-4 defense would crush the linebackers and safeties. And if you bring in a NB against him, then you can run.

You don't get the addition of the extra gap, but you get everything else.
