Apart from Matthews who is a pure finisher on this team?

Nylander?
No. He's more of a hybrid finisher/playmaker than a pure finisher.
Tavares?
No. He can't bury anything this season.

Hyman is the only one who comes close to mind.

We need a pure finisher. Call up Nick Robertson and see if he can finish these empty nets.

I'm tired of seeing Mikheyev, Kerfoot, Rielly, and, co missing empty netters.

Robertson is a pure shooter, it's common sense to give him a go.

Nah we just need someone to stop the puck and instill some confidence in the team.

Andersen sucks.

Waited almost a year to long to get rid of Babcock

Should have gotten rid of Freddy this past summer.

Never never again will it be so easy to get to the third round than this year and we have a goalie who can’t stop a beach ball

Nah, the leafs are fine.

It just so happens that, very very coincidentally they face "hot goaltenders" that aren't hot against any other team than the leafs.

Yeah yeah yeah... the leafs have a great record this year.

In spite of that, I still think they have a significant "finish" problem, and I'm scared of it rearing it's ugly head come playoff time. Just like last year... when we lost to a pretty lousy team due to a pretty lousy goalie tandem being "hot".

What does Joe Thornton bring to the leafs?

He's out of gas.

He's nothing more than a passenger. If anything, we've seen how useless he is, once Matthews was injured.

He's slow. Bobbles the puck. He's lost his game. Most games, he doesn't even make 1 good pass.

Call up Robertson, enough is enough.
There is no way Robertson isn't better than 1 of: Mikheyev, Engvall, Thornton, and, Boyd.

I feel like the offense drying up may also be a symptom of other issues as opposed to a lack of personnel. To borrow a basketball term, the Leafs have been crashing the net but the "spacing" or timing seems off, like they all crowd into the slot and trip all over each other. Gord Miller made a very insightful comment on the Matthews goal vs the Jets that it wasn't that he knew where to go, but right on time.

The other problem is lack of urgency. Seen a bunch of plays where they want to tic tac toe the loose puck in or chip it in. Sometimes you need to hammer it in.

We're 2nd in the league in GF/GP. Getting more guys to put the puck in the net isn't a bad thing, I don't think anyone will disagree there. But 3 games where we scored 6 total goals, including 3 past the reigning Vezina winner doing handstands, counting as a "dry spell" shows that we're pretty spoiled for offense.

I will worry about our finishing ability when we are not near the top of the league in goals.

Our goaltending is by far our worst position right now. If Dubas wanted to be really ballsy and improve our team, that is where he goes and not a forward which is far from a big need.

If I were Dubas, I’m on the phone with Columbus and making a deal for Elvis. Expansion draft exempt as well.

Demko was tearing it up before he faced the Leafs.

Helle is the current Vezina winner and a top 3 goalie in the NHL.

Freddie has a .905 save% while our backups are sitting around .940

Tampa was a couple bounces away from blowing their series against the Jackets as they had as much trouble scoring as we did.

What are you going on about?

Agreed. And the Leafs PP needs a point shot to keep the opposition goalie honest

Mikheyev finishes everything these days.

Set-up pass to an open net? That slid right by while he fanned on the shot. Finished that play.

Seriously, he reminds me of Sergei Berezin who could fire the puck but could never hit the net, and Michael Grabner who while he was with the Leafs could do everything but score.

It eventually turned around for Grabner, and I think it will turn around for Mikheyev too. Patience is a virtue.

The Leafs do have other players who can put the biscuit in the basket as well. I have no worries there.

What they really need is a game-saving goalie. The Freddie show is wearing on me.

We actually also miss a good puck distributor that would allow the Leafs to move the puck to the left or right in an umbrella formation. Right now you have Rielly, who isn't the best at walking the line, and then an extra forward wasted on the other point.

Did Rittich get lit up by the Sens after looking like a Vezina winner in 2 games against us ?

Yep and we'll probably light him up too next time, just like we light up most goalies being one of the best offensive teams in the league.

Every goalie has hot streaks and its no reason to start talking wacky stuff about the team with the 4th best shooting % in the league (and 1st in the division), especially when the leagues best sniper is playing injured and we have some wounded out there. Just a strange thread.
