Not too many problems in Red Wings land these days.
The wins keep stacking up and some younger players are earning bigger roles!

But there is one big problem. It will be interesting to see what happens here and how quick the team moves to address this.

It doesn’t take an advanced scout to realize Holl is struggling terribly. The average fans heart is skipping beats every time Holl gets a shift.

With Petry out long term , I don’t think a serious team can continue to have Holl in the lineup for the next 2 months.

Not to pile on the guy. But what is the solution here ? Anyone still think we can get away with trying to hide Him for 10 mins a game ?

He sucks. 7d next year and should be that this year. I’d like to see some griffins in his place for right now but I don’t think any of them are really ready to make that leap. Hoping we upgrade that at the deadline. If we could get a guy who could handle being the RD for that bottom pairing for the next couple years that would be ideal but unlikely to get that at the deadline.

Most likely stuck with him for the rest of the season, but might be a buyout candidate for the next one.

I want to call up Buium and see what happens!

Always liked his skill set and he has that championship pedigre, so I don’t think the early call up will be too big for him.

Yzerman said Gus was originally slated to play the right side… So Buium being a lefty is not a dealbreaker.

Every team has their own problems, but Red Wings team is on 6-game win streak, so they have a lot more positives in the team to "outscore" this problem.

We had a Holl problem the minute we signed. I am wrong plenty of times but people arguing with me telling me how it was a decent signing when he was signed was ridiculous.
He was terrible in TO and he's terrible here.

He should have been bought out this past summer.

He's bad, but I feel like we've come a long way when we can actually talk about the #6D as a problem that's near the top 10 of our priorities to improve.

Realistically I think we're stuck with him until the offseason. It is what it is.

I don't mind him if he's the 7D. Come in every now and then and eat some picks on the PK. But regular minutes? He's f***ing horrendous. I don't even think a major move would be needed to upgrade him, but just getting someone decent there might also drastically improve Gustafssons game too. Petry out another 2 months but he would actually be a big upgrade in that spot as well, it would be nice if they could fill that spot with even a small trade this year if they're still in a playoff spot.

Playing close 1 goal games, Holl is absolutely a liability that can lose you a game

My preference is to trade him but I think we’re giving up an asset to do so. Don’t love a buyout either so I think he is a scratch or is sheltered.

Think in the summer with just one year left you can probably get rid off him to a bottom feeder with a pick probably.

Right here, right now? We're not competing for the cup this year and we're winning games with him. He's fine as our 6/7 on this team and I generally like him more than Petry. Also, the next man up from GR is most likely Lagesson, not some prospect to get excited about.

The fact that he's still signed for another year? That's a problem

I would rather trade him with a pick than buy him out.

$26M in cap next year and the only FA of any note is Kane. A Holl buyout would put them up to $28.2M.

ELCs on the roster include Edvinsson, Kasper, and probably Mazur and Cossa.

That buyout is very doable and better off doing than losing a pick.

If we send Holl to GR, his cap hit against us is $2.4m
If we buy him out, it's $1.1m for the next two years.

I just bury him in GR and be done with it if we get to that point but I'm with @newfy and others, I'm fine with him as the #7. I'm with pretty much everyone, though, that I'd really like to see us get someone else in that sixth spot for the rest of this season.

The 4 nations tournament is kind of a pain in the butt here, because I'd want to give Tuomisto a look before really going after a trade. Going with 3 rookies on the blueline seems kinda crazy, but if he's an upgrade over Holl he's an upgrade, and I think it would only be good for us to get a look at him.

Buium would immediately get exposed to making constant rookie mistakes and likely looking completely lost out there for extended stretches...

...which would still be an upgrade to Holl. :D

If he isn't traded, we can send him to GR.

Trade Holl.

If not, waive.

There’s going to be a team that needs to hit the floor that might try him. I don’t think it’s possible to trade him this year. Nobody’s that stupid.

If he is so bad, no one is not gonna take him.

If he isn't so bad that he has some trade value, why not putting him on the ice?
