Post-Game Talk: We have a major Oil leak now

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Oilers GMs have an A+ grade in How To Botch the McDra Era 101.
How you can only have 1 SCF appearance and 2 WCF's appearances in 10 years of McDavid and Draisaitl is beyond me yet....here we are. Not one but two generational players and they've made 2 Western Conference Finals in 10 years with one of those appearances being a sweep so might as well be 1 WCF in 10 years and tbh, they had a pretty favorable draw last year with Vancouver and their 3rd string goalie in the 2nd round.

The needs 10 years ago were top 6 wingers, bottom 6, top 4 Dman and goalie.

It won't happen, but they all need to be purged in the off season. We are exponentially worse than last year, with little to no recourse coming into the TDL.

We traded/let go 4 of your top 5 fastest skaters, which included your top fwd and top def prospects. Three of which were your #1 Dman's best friends, which might be playing into his subpar season. To turn around and lock the team in cap hell acquiring more old, slow, and washed vets trying to ride mcdrai's coattails to a cup while hiding in the shadows.

Let's face it. Last year was our best opportunity with teams like vegas and COL getting knocked out early. We blew it. We lost our chance. Unless a new group is able to come in and overhaul half of this roster and make some serious change to the entire team, we aren't winning a cup.

This f***ing management group and secondary layer of this team are trying to hold on to McDrai and get a free cup for 10 years.

Still don't have a top 4 defenseman, still don't have ANY winger help in the top 6, still don't have competent goaltending. 10 f***ing years into the McD era. We have wasted it away. WASTED. RUINED.

OH RIGHT. I forgot to even mention acquiring some career scrub coach who is ACTIVELY preaching against the team playing physical because he believes hitting and physicality is overrated (straight from his mouth). Which is making this team almost impossible to keep the intensity level as high as it should be.

Now our TDL plans are in the hands of Kane who has shown time and time again that all he cares about is himself. We have set ourselves back years with the horrific signings/decisions in the summer.

Our last regulation win was January 27 against the Kraken. This team has been bad for awhile (we managed to squeak out some overtime wins against lesser competition in early February).

I think you might be underestimating the stupidity of our management group. This is the same team that hasn't fired our goalie coach yet as well remember.
 
What a sad state of affairs when the team and some fans are looking at that game as an improvement or that the goalie lost them the game. Reality is that he was on the verge of stealing a game for them until he didn't. This team is broken.

He's a big part of the reason they are "broken" for the moment, Skinner has been ass all year long against good teams, he can go suck it. The two goals he allowed in the 3rd yesterday were crap, I'm glad McDavid isn't going 110% to try and hide the flaws in the team. This management needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into making serious change, then so be it.

Klingberg is the least of our problems. If he ensures Brown never sees the ice outside of Bako and keeps Stecher in the press box he's worth is weight. He will only get better as he gets used to our system.

Listening to GYB now and Rishaug finally calling out Skinner but barely. Rishaug saying "it seems like Skinner's lateral movement is just a little bit off". Uhhh, ya think? He's just realizing this? And then said "Am I being a little too hard on him". My god, it's like pulling teeth with these guys to give him even just a little bit of criticism. It's like Bizarro World with these guys.

And I say this as a guy who has tried to be Glass Half Full with Skinner the last few years but there's no defending him this season. There's just no defense left.

This is all situations correct? Not defending the Oilers play last night but at even strength according to Natural Stat Trick the expected goals were 2.35-2.02 in favor of the Panthers. Much closer when taking out the 4 PP advantage Florida had. It's still NOWHERE near good enough though. Since the team has returned from the 4 Nations break they haven't posted an xGF% above 40% in all situations in a single game 💀

No doubt. I hated those goals as well (especially the 3rd, the 4th is also just a weird bounce). My point wasn't as much about defending Skinner as it is that they had no business being in the game in the first place yet somehow the feeling was that they played well, which is indicative of how bad they've been that yesterday looked good.

My intent wasn't to defend Skinner, it was to point out that the team still played like shit despite people trying to suggest it was an improvement.
