Well, I still say the boys will make the playoffs but with one week remaining to get a goalie upgrade, I don't see much room for optimism at that position. Its like a bad play. You've seen it before and you really don't want to watch the ending.

This game started off with the biggest issue that has sunk this team since 2025 started...uncontested shots from the slot. Very first shot on net for the Panthers was Rodrigues with a wide open uncontested shot 15 feet out in front of Skinner. A sign of things to come. The Oilers simply dont make other teams work for chances...they hand them out like candy on Halloween.
The other teams have to know that their uncontested chance to score will happen...just a matter of time.


The Panthers on the other hand give away pretty much nothing.
I envy the Panthers because they make you work your ass off to even get a chance to score.

There is nothing but congestion in their zone virtually every time the Oilers have possession. Thats why they won the Stanley Cup...because they make you earn everything.

The best way to score on that team is off the rush and when you get a rush chance you had better make it count because you arent getting much of anything otherwise. Overpassing is not the solution either.
Couple that with the fact that the Panthers out battled the Oilers players for most loose pucks and this had loss writtent all over it.
Even with a gift goal for Kulak from goalie Bob this game was still ultimately out of reach.

This tailspin is IMO is primarily due to a lack of commitment to playing a system and a lack of cmmittment to paying the price to win.
Maybe its the same thing that plagues this team far too often which is a belief that they can just outscore their mistakes because Connor and Leon are going to carry the offensive load.

This team isnt winning much of anything unless they commit to paying the price to win which includes committing to playing sound defence.

Damning with faint praise. Its interesting that tonight was Skinner ain't terrible night and yet still beat by 6 pucks. Got beat clean several times. Saved by a goal called back and a post that had room. Also by Panthers missing on several other scoring chances. This is a night where Tkachuk wasn't even in lineup and Barkov looked to be nullifying every rush with offsides. Barkov was good defensively tonight, so were the Panthers.

In anycase its indelibly clear we need a goalie. Really just not seeing Skinner as our 1 would be easier on my eyes. So sick of him.

These are the players that have a huge impact on our success but our pooping the bed:

2) Bouchard
3) Mcdavid

I just can't place McDavid in that category no matter how far below his usual level that he's been.

I'd also add, and I know this might ruffle some feathers, Ekholm on the shit list. He's been an absolute god send for this team the last 2+ seasons but he's been absolutely atrocious the last 10-12 games or so.
Skinner and Bouchard have been atrocious all season, clowns really, but now Ekholm has joined the party.

Not to mention that nobody can piss a drop of anything outside of McDrai. Ryan Nothing Happens, Hyman even though he scored tonight, Arvidsson, the entire bottom 6 who just take skating laps then back to the bench. Just a terrible team surrounding the best player in the league this season. Nobody is having a good year, it's actually quite remarkable.
Seriously, who has had a good year? Draisaitl, Nurse, Kulak in the first half mainly, Perry? Anybody else? Remarkable

My god, give it up. Skinner is f***ing awful. No matter how you spin it in your head, Skinner is the main reason this team is flailing full stop. That 3rd goal was almost worse than the 2nd against Tampa. At this point, i assume some of you must be related to the guy.

Exactly. It's not much different than San Jose getting Georgiev. I recall Buffalo also got serious value back by getting goalies, letting them bounce back, and flipping them. Skinner is a great candidate for that imo

Thats a bit of an overstatment considering Ekholm has had to cover for Bouchard who really has been dogshit.

That aside...name a player aside from Draisaitl has has been good the past 10-12 games?
