In other words, you're philosophy of rebuilding is showing no patience at all. Look around the league and count how many teams have succeeded trying to rebuild on the fly as quickly as possible.
The veterans that KD brought in are merely fill-ins (I didn't like a few of them but hopefully are role models for the kids, nothing more). Those spots will open up for prospects when they are ready. The jury is still out on KD but your assessment is premature, IMO.
This is a strawman.
My argument has always been that Chicago would have been better off keeping younger players like Hagel and Strome than doing a 100% burn it to the ground rebuild.
It is too easy to fall into the abyss of perpetual rebuild and now Chicago is willingly there. Winning is about skill and belief. Chicago is an atheist hockey team right now. Changing that will take years.
I've never encouraged a lack of patience, I'm completely discouraged by the lack of signs of progress. Chicago MUST take chances on players like Kiliyev, Askarov, Tolvanen, Kakko, etc.
You have to get players and hope from anywhere and everywhere when you're a black star.
No he f***ing didn’t lmao. Since when is signing Teuvo and then a bunch of retirement home players in Maroon, Smith, Brodie trying to be competitive
If you whole heartedly thought KD would even want this team to be competitive and force speed up a rebuild after 2 years of starting it then you’re probably the type of person warning labels on coffee are meant for.
Sure, sure.
To be clear, competitive does NOT mean making the playoffs. It means NOT being the worst team in the league.
What did Kyle from Chicago say? If only there were quotes:
Kyle from Chicago:
"We want to take the next step here and progress,” he told reporters. “We don't want to finish where we finished this year moving forward. That's not what we're looking to do anymore …
That can't happen again. We need to start moving up and onward.”
There needs to be progression,” Davidson continued. “I don't know how many points or standing slots that is, but we can't finish second(-to) last in the league. I think the standard has to be raised. The expectation has to be raised. Through that, accountability will be raised. That's the nature of the path we're on. Eventually, we have to start making positive steps, and I think we've reached that point.
“Im not saying that we're going to be competing for playoffs or Stanley Cups or anything this next year, I don't know how realistic that is -- it's the best league in the world, best players and best teams in the world, and so to say we're just going to improve a whole great deal in the standings is difficult, but we need to be better. And it's time to take a step forward.”
He's failing by his own standard.
