We Have A Gm Problem

If Donato can do it, almost quite literally anyone with a pulse can do it.

:help:

It was obviously a career year, but it was still a great year for him and that's still production that won't be easily replaced. Hell he scored more than the UFAs they brought in for last year in TT and Bertuzzi. But sure, "anyone with a pule can do it."

Let Donato go …. Do not pay top $ for his 1 flash in the pan season. He will revert back next year to what he allways was and will be.

Defence is going to be drastically improved when our incoming prospects gell together.may take some growing pains in the first half of the season.

Stay away from the super big fish in free Agency but try to find some secondary offence.

Stick to the plan / don’t get jittery and impatient and do something rash that screws everything up.

1 more season with growing pains and then we start seeing results next year.

Scoring 30 goals is no easy feat no matter the situation. As for Donato coming out of nowhere, it has been well documented that he worked on his skating over the offseason and it made a significant difference in his game. Why didn't he do it in another offseason? Why don't other players do what he did last offseason? I have no idea but maybe someone recognized that his game would benefit more than most from better skating.

sure lets chat. what have I not answered? I have repeatedly said I like KDs draft picks, not fan of any of his FA signings other than Teravainen, not fan on of value return on most of his trades ( I loved the Seth Jones trade and Mikheyev trade). My biggest issue is his lack of ability to or willingness to acquire young guys when they hit market...ie Askarov, Gauthier, McGroarty, now Issac Howard who is on block . I completely understand a rebuild takes along time in the NHL and that Prospects hardly ever come in ready to play day 1..I get that...my biggest gripe is KD not signing younger veterans or looking to make trades like aforementioned young guys when they are available to augment the roster. I understand guys also "have to want to come here" but then I see the same posters say well wait to 2026 and look at the free agent class like somehow that same "they wanna sign here principle" is out the window because it fits that persons perspective of who they want. I feel like this board along with Bears board are homer fans who if you critique the GM or team you get jumped on for not being onboard with teams perspective. I hated Bowman because I felt like he was unqualified and road the coattails of his predecessor. I feel same way the KD is not qualified to be a GM

I have replyed to many of your posts and you just ignore those that dont support your opinions. You just complane to complane.

Man you all like to bicker

Give Donato a 2-3 year deal, get us above the floor, and move on. One more tank/growth year for the young squad and then we should be looking much better.
We gave Donato a 2-3 year deal. He didn’t sign it. He wants to capitalize on a career year because he’s not putting up 60 points ever again. He’s not shooting at that percentage.

Some team will be fooled or desperate and call him a centre. He’ll get six years, not be on the first line, have no powerplay time and look like a plug. You don’t pay guys like that.

He couldn't even return a 2nd rounder at the deadline. He's in for a rude awakening. Let him test free agency and let him crawl back for a 3 x $5m AAV deal

I'd offer him 3x4m if he comes crawling back. Should be a discount for him to stay where his family won't be uprooted.
If it's 3 years I don't care if they offer him $6m. At worst he's a top 9 depth player who won't be a waste of a roster spot like: Hall, Kurashev, Anthanasiou, Foligno, etc...

The Hawks hired some guy from Minnesota who specializes in contract negotiations so we'll see how it goes. I wonder if it was his input that made the Hawks shy away from Marner. I REALLY hope that's the case because it means we have someone intelligent in our front office who understands how ridiculous free agency is and how little value their contracts return back to the signing team.

Its another bottom of the standings year people. Why are we super worried about replacing Donato's production?

The difference this year is most of the roster will be young players the whole way through. KD said years ago that the rebuild's speed would depend on how the players developed. Like it or not it appears he is sticking to that philosophy, but at least we're finally going to start finding out what we have in these guys.

Around the trade deadline hopefully Laurent Brossoit and Connor Murphy are both healthy and on top of their game. They should each fetch possibly more than a 2nd rder ? I wouldn't mind Ryan Suter signed for 1 year to help the kids .

No thanks to Suter. Don’t think brossoit will have that value.

Donato is a fourth-line player who wants to sign a lifetime contract in Chicago. No thanks.

This season the roster will be made up mostly of young players, let's see what they can do. Gavin McKenna bidding 😎

LB isn't returning a 2nd.

I honestly expect we'll go with Knight and Soda and LB will be waived at the start of the year. Just a question if he's picked up by anyone.

not worth the argument..its just completely disingenuous at this point. Let's let our leading goal scorer walk who hit his career highs here, while not going after any of the big fish in FA, and then pretend that yeah some miracle kids are going to replace that output. Then also then say we can't make guys sign here, but yet we won't sign our own f***ing guys who have career seasons and our under age of 30..its like chasing your tail with people like this holy shit.

I wasn't surprised, but I was hopeful KD would be little more direct on what he wanted in his coach instead of the fluffy-philosophical-agreement stuff.

He's has had more coaches than most gms ever get a chance to hire in the affiliate and the big team. At some point it's okay to say he wanted "x", "y", and "z" in the candidates after so many bad/questionable choices on both benches.

Blashill has his work cut out for himself, but I like a hire like that more than a Sullivan, or Carle, or older win-now types.

Of all the coaches KD has put in place, as non consequential as the hire probably is 3 years from now, this would be his best yet by a metric arsetonne, wish that meant more.
