Why do people keep referencing the Oilers for how long this takes? 4 1st overalls in 6 years, a top 4 pick 6 out of 7 years...all this including one of the greatest players of all-time...and 15 years in they still haven't won a cup. That's not a model that should be referenced, unless we are discussing failed rebuilds.
Or is the situation with Oilers a true indication of just how long it takes (and how much luck is involved) to rebuild in this era? Are we kidding ourselves that Hawks' rebuild can be successful in 5-7 years. Is it more realistic that it will take 10 years+ for Hawks to be where Oilers are now?
I certainly hope not but when we see so many teams who can't get out of their mediocrity, it makes one wonder.

No, it is an indication of how disadvantaged an undesirable franchise is to rebuild. O6 teams and dersirable FA landing spots have a huge advantage. We can load up on prospects and then patch holes in our pool as they become evident in FA or trades (not on No Trade Lists). Teams like EDM, Winnipeg, Buffalo, etc. have holes in their prospect pool and they STAY holes.

This is why the rebuild for Chicago is so much more powerful. When a hole for a scoring wing materializes there will be players super excited about: winning, living in Chicago, playing for an O6, playing with Bedard.

CBJ isn't a threatening rebuild. SJ, ANA, MTL are. But still don't think they come close to being as appealing as CHI. California Tax, Canada is a dumpster fire. In a year I would contend that Chicago will be the hottest landing spot in the NHL, certainly in the Central Division. Just in time for the Cap to skyrocket so sign these players. Hawks have great timing.

Optimistic of you but I'm not sure Chicago is the attraction it once was for players.

In the last 6 months there has been "smoke" that: Elias Petterson, Kiril Kaprizov wanted to come. Then they actually signed Bertuzzi and Teravainen who were like... top 10 FAs this offseason whether you like them or not. And they didn't even overpay. Furthermore they do those player surveys on the Athletic and Chicago is always top 3 favorite places to play.

The only thing that can get in our way is our own perceived dysfunction (e.g. mistreating Bedard, botching the next coaching hire, firing the GM and creating instability, letting CHSN problem fester into 25/26)

That's what we are doing lol. What's the point in finishing 8th-14th last every year?
Poops dream team would be a team forever in the hunt yet have no chance of ever being in the playoffs or winning a title.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he is a burner account for Reinsdorf hoping the Blackhawks stay mediocre forever to take some of the attention away from his own failures he calls teams

I love how this is the worst team and the homers still defend it bc they're suckers.

There are more effective ways to build a team than burning things down and indefinitely crossing your fingers.

I repeat, Kyle Davidsons OWN WORDS were that a repeat of last season was NOT acceptable.

Excuse me for holding someone to their own standards.

I'm still really surprisred that the reigns to the rebuild of an original 6 franchise was given to a rookie GM

What were we giving up for him?

I don’t know what value NY placed on Borgen, but they got him a 3rd and a 6th.

I’d have given up the Dallas 2nd we have for Kakko. Maybe add in Martinez to give them an active body?

Everyone knows the team is awful but this hasn't exactly been a repeat of last season. They're on pace to improve goal differential by like 40. They're competitive most nights and only have a couple of guys who don't belong in the league as opposed to like half the team. It's objectively far less bleak even if it's still bad.

And building a contending team out of a declining, stagnating mess like the Blackhawks were in without razing it down requires far more finger crossing than a proper rebuild. You can criticize the choices made within the rebuild but committing to the tank was absolutely the right move. You being sick of losing after a couple of years doesn't change that

Why was Richardson fired then?

Kakko for Murphy (50% retained)

They would have gotten vet physical RD to replace Trouba

At this point it appears the Hawks again blew it holding onto Murphy

Why was Richardson fired then?
Because Bedard was regressing under his watch and publicly questioning his own abilities, and all of the established NHLers LR coached in his time here similarly regressed. The team was boring and listless and needed a new voice.

Mind you nowhere did I say this season is good. It simply isn't the same caliber of horrible as last year, which was one of the worst seasons of NHL hockey in modern history

Hawks goal differential is projected to be way better this year. Hawks and Sharks just had a lot of ground to make up while still being at the bottom. Standings of teams above them littered with teams hoping to exit their rebuilds and ahead of them nobody that blew their team up.

What were your expectations for this season? How would you have accomplished them?

Please reference a team that was built without burning things down.

Why is it his job to provide a thesis when the GM didn't turn in his own homework assignment?

He's managing present and future payroll and he's building a small armada of talented prospects. I think this year is the first hiccup, but I wouldn't say it's a disaster.....just disappointing.....and I don't know anyone who thought they were going to be .500 or make the playoffs. I'm still on board.
