Post-Game Talk: We’re all smilin with you tonight Stu

It feels nice to beat Vegas AND the refs again.

Glad they split up Nurse-Bouch and ran Kulak-Bouch and Nurse-Stecher like most of us wanted. And to no one's surprise, our D was excellent after those adjustments. Weird to see Stecher get more ice time than Walman and Klingberg, but I can't argue with the results. I hope it's nothing to be concerned about with those two injury-wise.

What else is there to say about Stu tonight? Unreal performance. He needs to hire a hypnotist who can make him think that every game is Game 4.

Overall, this game was just a BLAST. If you call yourself an Oiler fan and didn't have fun watching this game then hockey isn't for you. Freddy duking it out with Hague, Hill losing his shit, then Kane falling on Hill, then Kane scoring on Hill and Hyman giving him a snow shower as the "icing" on Adin's GFY cake. What wasn't there to love? And maybe it's a bit sociopathic to enjoy seeing Pietrangelo suffer, but those pieces of shit took out Pickard so I don't give a f***.

Sorry Mrs Skinner. Pickard had 6 sizzling wins. Your son only has one.

Yup, no matter how great Skinner was tonight, we still need to see more from him in the rest of the series. One great game for three bad ones won't cut it. He's let me down far too many times for me to totally change course on the guy after just one game, but his performance tonight was really encouraging and makes me think he could finish off Vegas in Vegas. I didn't think he had a game like that left in him.

Good game by Skinner but again, that's the problem with him. He finally looks like a starter and then rattles off a bunch of bad games in a row. If he could clean up his inconsistent play it would do wonders. That said the team was lights out in front of him. He made a few good saves but barely had to do anything. I still hope he can close this series out and then Pickard can be ready to go next series though I assume he would then get the start next series as well which I'm against.

Boston podcaster Pete Blackburn on the first period..."Oilers versus Golden Knights after watching Canes versus Caps, is like going to the strip club straight from your nephew's baptism."

There's a couple other good quotes from The Cult...

And just like that, Bouchard learned to play defence again. Kane, Henrique, and Nurse had really good games. If only Stecher was 4" taller and 20lbs heavier he'd be a hell of a dman, he gives his all.
He's a good PK'er when he focuses.
Truth be told, I think spending a few minutes on the kill is good for him. It forces him to engage defensively throughout the game and not let his mind wander in the defensive zone.

Breaking up Nurse-Bouchard also has both of them looking so much better. Neither likes to do puck retrieves so tossing them with Kulak and Stecher helps both look closer to their best.

Plus with how good the Walman-Klingberg pairing has been offensively, it means they're not losing much (if anything) at evens by having Bouchard play more defensive minutes.

Imo that's a big thing that not being talked about right now, how do you establish a consistent forecheck against this defence? They're so mobile and quick at getting the puck and turning it up ice.

Also all praise to Kane and Frederic (especially Evander). Vegas isn't used to getting pushed around and it shows.

They've gone from saying that's just playoff hockey vs. Minny, to consistently whining about the refs; and those two are a big part of it.

Plus unlike a younger Kane and Kostin combo, they're disciplined. Those two, along with Nurse and Perry are happy to turn things into a back ally brawl, but they've been smart enough to let LA and Vegas unravel themselves. Even the refs putting their thumb on the scales hasn't bothered them.

And a little love for Connor Brown too. Flat out beats his man behind the Vegas net to set up Henrique and get the team off on the right foot. When Brown is on he’s very dangerous on the forecheck.

If Skinner did not step it up tonight? He would have roasted by everyone
If Skinner didn't make saves tonight it might have called into question his future in this league, he found his confidence and his poise, and made an important difference. This huge and he deserves credit for it, but he'll have to keep it up.

When the Oilers bring their "A" game then they are very tough to beat. 2nd "A" game of the post-season.

One more "A" on Wednesday and its done.

Three. Game 5 against L.A. and Games 1 and 4 against Vegas. It's hard to be this dominant in playoff games with so many good teams and the ebbs and flows of playoff games but the Oilers are starting to piece them together more consistently
