Post-Game Talk: We’re all smilin with you tonight Stu

I dunno, he looked pretty freakin’ weak on the third goal.

Markander StoneKane didn’t even get his A-shot off, no screen, above the hash marks and somehow SHiller lets it in. Never gonna win anything with a guy like that in net.

😉
Yeah the third goal on HIll was pretty bad. That said Kane can wire the puck and release quick and there was the chance there of a deflection. But Hill facing that with a 5 hole so unprotected he got pregnant on the play.

Kane f***ed him a few times tonight. jk aside What are you gonna do? Kane is a big Grizzly, Vegas have no answer to him and they don't even want to find out.

Kane basically skates by the Vegas bench asking if anybody wants a piece and they bow down. Loved Kane since we got him.

Yes, yes, yes. I go back to this but look at how badly Vegas were coached and prepared for this game tonight.
Lets micro it. 3PP"s in first period and pissing every one of them away passing the puck. Nobody shooting and Vegas had 5SOG. Where was the timeout to get Vegas dialed into the game. They were awful, they were getting beat to everything.
Even Hill tried to wake his club up, inject some life into them. The coaching staff did nothing and frankly that Vegas PP scheme is complete garbage to look at. Its a classic case of underperforming skill and they have been all season and playoffs delivering muffins. That club should be working on PP all day.

The Oilers are so well coached. Keep saying this is the best coaching staff, bar none, we've had since 1990.
It looked like they were trying to do the same down low cross-ice passes they did in the first 2 games to great effect. I think the Oilers PK has got that covered now, Vegas needed to adjust.

All these clips I’ve seen tonight from Hill losing his shit, on only two of them does an Oiler actually contact him. One was Hyman where he did graze him as he was crashing the net but he had turned away and was trying to miss him. The other time was when a stationary Kane was cross checked from behind over top of Hill. All those other times were fly bys including the play where Hill stuck his leg out to trip Janmark who was skating past the crease after a whistle and started an altercation that bafflingly led to a Vegas power play.

This narrative that the Oilers were running Hill tonight was nonsense. Hill for whatever reason started the game unhinged. He was like that the entire first period and then his behaviour was normal again the rest of the game and coincidentally there were no more incidents after that.

If there’s a story here it’s what was up with Hill to start the game.
I'll guess that Hill who has had some back issues and is stretching out his back on the crossbar around 25X a game is on painkillers to keep him in. Many comments of him being "relaxed" I'd bet he's on some real good painkillers. he seems buzzed.

That said the competitor in him was trying to light some fire under his team. He was intently trying to stir stuff out of nothing just to desperately try to get his club engaged in the game. Was evident in first 5mins Oilers were just running Vegas show and he was trying to reset. I don't mind a player doing that. it was the equivalent of getting into a fight just to get your club going.

But yeah, Hill is on something.

Just goes into what bad coaching they have. One game they were actually executing passes from behind net to out front just like Kings were doing. They've almost completely abandoned that for some reason. Tonight the behind the net player on PP was just a bumper, just passing it to halfboards everytime. They weren't workign any 3 point plays at all. Maybe because they couldn't complete two passes in a row a lot of the time. heh

That said Oilers were being a machine defending on pk.

Probably our best all around game so far this playoffs. Depth scoring shows up again with Henrique and Kane putting up monster performances. Skinner with a couple of key saves in the first period to keep our lead intact. Great game from him which was honestly unexpected for most of us. Hill looked pretty rattled as he was showing some frustration towards some of our players (I counted a couple of hacks from him as well as the altercation with Kane). A good sign that we are getting to him.

Not even counting all the infractions that Vegas wasn't called for tonight, including the half dozen on Hill, the vicious forearm shiver from Howden that bloodied Stecher's face, the even crazier part is that on two of Vegas' PP's, it should have at worst a man off for each team, or the Vegas player off by himself. On the Janmark penalty, Hill very subtly sticks his toe out and Janny barely touches it, and Hill goes into dive mode. Should have been embellishment on Hill, and I would have been fine with tripping on Janny. The penalty on Kane was comical, the idiot McNabb crosschecks him right into his goalie, Kane had literally no where to go, and then McNabb gets mad and chases after him, following Hill and trying to attack him. Somehow, with two refs within 4 feet, we get the only penalty. It is just mind boggling how corrupt this league is. We are 7-3 with horrible reffing, would be 9-1 with the calls that every other team gets.

That game is the template for this team winning the Stanley Cup.

- Smart, responsible puck play across the board

- Outworked them handily. Kapanen and Podkolzin worked their bags off. I suspect Leon is injured, but these guys stepped up and drove that line tonight. Unreal performance from both of them.

- Kane was a demon. Created all goals either by scoring them or beating someone down off the puck to set up the play.

- We were very sharp in the defensive zone and on our side of the red line in general.

- Goaltending that actually stopped all the shots that should have been stopped. The defense was airtight and Skinner did what he needed to do.

The pace and the aggressiveness in which we played with was dominant. They don’t have an answer for it. Empty the tank on Wednesday and get some time off.
