Thing is, the way they have it works for an honest league. For example, we were in a playoff spot, but by no means guaranteed around the TDL. Say Draisaitl went down with an injury that would definitely last until the 2nd round or later, I think we should be able to use his cap on going for a bit of a replacement in someone like Brock Nelson or whatever. I would think the same for any team that lost a star like that legitimately.

The issue is when surgeries are delayed, everything is shrouded in a veil of secrecy, or you have weird stuff like Hossa becoming allergic to his equipment (though I think he just retired with that one?), and then they are perfectly fine for game 1.

I don't know what the solution is tbh. Selfishly, I kinda hope it ends up in a softer cap.

I’m at the point where I think I’d be happy with just no salary cap after the deadline if the NHL isn’t willing to make common sense adjustments to how LTIR works. Haven’t thought about the far reaching impact of that, but on instinct I think I would prefer it to whatever this is.

Come on edm. Surprise me in a good way. Especially Stu. Not holding my breath on that one but still. All we can hope is that he had a short leash when he flounders. Literally. It’s what he does in net. lol
