32 Thoughts said on this morning’s pod that the NHL is closely watching the players that went to LTIR this year (much more than in past years), so I suspect it’s a precautionary step by the Oilers so they don’t caught in any potential maelstrom.

Typical NHL, now they’re trying to corral the horses after they’ve left the barn door open, years ago.
I agree.

I listened to this mornings podcast and thought this very thing.
I can help but think that a few of the injuries are not quite what the Oilers have said publically.

Of course the League seems to care a lot more when any team not named the Knights is using this loophole.

This is a dangerous Oiler team going into the playoffs. Opposition can't coach against an animal that they don't know but Knob can coach against a known enemy.

McDrai are rested and they've been waiting all year for this. They are hungry and will go off, starting tonight. Get to Keumper early and often and destroy his confidence.

No nerves here. Just excitement to watch this team win 16 games into June, beginning tonight.
With no ekholm, Stu is going to have to have the playoffs of his life and actually be consistently good with at least. .900%. Bare minimum. Good luck. Not sure the team can bail him out like they did last playoffs. I’m just being realistic here.

That is an interesting consequence. Personally these back room rule boom things are dumb. Especially in these cases, this consequence doesn't attack the heart of the problem
We were joking when we said the league would be fine with every other team doing it except the Oilers.

Turns out it wasn’t a joke.

Freidman reported it this morning.

And the >latest< Kane plays is G3 according to Med Chickenman.
Yes, I finally found a link

Listened to it, he's just guessing. It's in the same vein as "Oilers won't be able to make any moves at the trade deadline because of Kane" that he was pushing a month ago, lots of "coincidences" and "guesswork" talk from him. Usually when he's actually reporting on things he's heard from the league and teams, he doesn't hedge his bets that much. Of course, the game of internet telephone has Oilers blogs stating that the NHL investigated the Oilers over Kane according to Friedman, so I'm sure the story will just keep growing as it moves downstream.

The most noteworthy thing he says is that the NHL is looking at changing it in CBA negotiations since it is actually a CBA issue(and why the NHL shut down the GMs back in 2020/21 about dealing with it then), something Lebrun already speculated about a month ago. So that's something that might have actual legs to it.

All they need to do is have teams ice capped teams in the playoffs. Get your guy(s) on LTIR, but you have to ice a team under the cap

Seems like Colorado is in a similar situation with Landeskog, probably could have played game 1 but likely the league has warned teams about ltir guys starting game 1. The worse part is it’s nothing like the Knights putting Stone and his 7-8M contract on LTIR in the lead up to the trade deadline so they can max out the cap space. Even with Kane on ltir, I don’t believe the Oilers maxed out what they could use and a good chunk of it was just having to carry a larger roster because of injuries.

Funny how the entire time the Knights were doing it, the league used the cba as an excuse of why there was nothing they could do but you just know they’re using that “spirit of the rule” bullshit card to threaten teams now.

Problem with that is the cap is for a 23 man roster. Teams only ice 20 players so there’s still plenty of room for silliness to happen.

Other teams were hit with it too though. Dallas with Heiskanen and Colorado with Landeskog. There has been building league resentment to LTIR abuse so it seems Chicago, Tampa and Vegas built up to this. Not unlike how they changed draft rules after the Oilers benefited too much, but these rules just punished future teams, not the Oilers.

This recent thing with LTIR, if true, is just strange though. It's like those one game suspensions for skipping the all star game. It won't be a deterrent. It doesn't address the problem. It's not right that it is hidden

Friedman is speculating but there were reports that teams were warned that after a 3rd straight year of Vegas shenanigans they were cracking down. It’ll come out one way or the other regardless. And the CBA is getting tweaked to close the loophole but with every loophole Gary closes he opens 2 more. The NHL are the kings of unintended consequences.

There we go!

Optimism isn't that hard... let's Go Oiler Fans! This team is better than last year, it just hasn't had a chance to play together yet.

McDavid was quoted a few days ago saying we weren't as injured as it appeared... guys were getting the rest that they needed. @brentashton on that one... literally 2 days after me saying the same thing ;)

I think these guys just learned what it was going to take last year and decided to deliberately play it very safe with any injuries down the stretch so that they could also have the benefit of fully charged batteries
Too funny!

You’re like my kids 25 years ago when they were preschool aged and hadn't yet learned yet the skill of being able to let go of an issue when they were told they were wrong.

Enjoy the game.

I saw Colin Campbell play D for the Oilers. I win the internet. ;)

Seriously the guy couldn't skate backwards. For a hundred bucks he couldn't skate backwards, he didn't know how. He was somehow in the NHL. People still wonder how he gets jobs.
Didn’t you play Rover on his great grandfather’s team? 🍻

Is his name really pronounced as colon? Or was that earned?

Would have preferred Dineen (or even Carrick) on D instead of Josh Brown.

Too bad Stecher is injured as he's a solid option on D... hopefully he heals up soon.

If Kane and Frederic eventually are both in the lineup... that's an added physicality dimension the team definitely lacks.

No idea how this 1st game goes but I think Kings would have to be favourites tonight on home ice as Oilers still with some decent sized holes in their lineup.

Gazolla was talking about this today. Also mentioned something cryptic about some leaked McDavid txt messages?? Anyone know what that's about?

No. Not on the texts.

But I sure took some jabs and laugh emojis for saying Kane was clearly circumventing and that McDavid has been coasting on purpose this year.

Both were and are true

Well, decided to make something for Game 1:

-Smoked Pork Shoulder and a 1/2 Beef Striploin for 6 hours @ 220
-Sous Vide for 52 hours @ 177
-Pulled the Pork and Shredded the Beef
-Sandwiches-Beef with smoked cheddar & spicy mustard / Pork with Coleslaw and sweet b-rays

Didn't know Gordon Ramsay was an Oiler fan.
